The Research Associate 2 will design, execute and manage research projects investigating the molecular mechanism of GI cancer metastasis in a foundational (basic) biological/health science research laboratory of Dr.Richard Fishel (Principal Investigator) in the Comprehensive Cancer Center at the Ohio State University.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with principal investigator (PI) to develop and implement goals and objectives of studies

  • Conceptualize, design and execute complex laboratory experiments

  • Plan and execute advanced molecular and cellular techniques

  • Plan, coordinate and oversee processing and analysis of data

  • Analyze and interpret research data

  • Develop and implement new and/or revised research methodology and techniques

  • Plan and test experimental designs, sampling techniques, and analytical methods

  • Develop and establish research controls, criteria and standards

  • Perform critical analysis of literature relevant to research

  • Collaborate with Principal Investigator to write and prepare research papers and manuscripts for publication and presentation at national and conferences and workshops, and in the writing of project reports, articles and other documents

  • Attend and present research results at national and international scientific conferences, workshops and seminars

  • Assist with development, writing, and preparation of grant proposals to obtain new or renewal of extramural funding in support of research

  • Investigate, identify and recommend possible sources of research funding

  • Participate in developing and managing grant budgets

  • Monitor expenses

  • Monitor and enforce laboratory safety procedures to ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, as well as local, state and federal regulations, including proper disposal and maintenance of regulated materials

  • Train and/or mentor research staff

  • Manage daily operations of the laboratory

  • Oversee and initiate procurement of lab supplies and equipment

  • Provide technical assistance and supervision of lab equipment

  • Negotiate and oversee equipment service contracts and repairs

Minimum Education Required:


  • A Master's degree in an appropriate biological/health science or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required

  • A Doctoral degree (MD, Ph.D. or MD/Ph.D.) in an appropriate biological/health science field is desirable

Required Qualifications:

  • Considerable (3 - 5 yrs.) experience in a biological/health research capacity is desired

  • Requires successful completion of a background check

  • Qualified candidates may be asked to complete a pre-employment physical, including a drug screen
