The Department of Otolaryngology is currently seeking a full time Research Associate 1 to work in Miami, FL. The Research Associate 1, SOM supports research activities for the assigned division by conducting laboratory experiments on assigned research projects. Moreover, the incumbent operates with the goal of advancing his/her expertise through continued education, training, and research.

CORE JOB FUNCTIONS                                                                                                             

1.    Understands and interprets research protocols and procedures.
2.    Participates in the publication of significant results.
3.    Maintains an overview of relevant research findings. 
4.    Ensures all research is undertaken according to good research practice.
5.    Keeps abreast of current publications relative to methods, techniques, and developments within the area of research.
6.    Collects, prepares, analyzes, dissects, and evaluates specimens or tissue cultures.
7.    Operates and maintains laboratory equipment.
8.    Performs a variety of routine assays, tests, and studies.
9.    Performs calculations to complete research test results, collects data, and performs statistical analysis of laboratory results.
10.    Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.
11.    Verifies accuracy of research data and monitors data quality control  
12.    Prepares and submits annual reviews to the Institutional Review Board (IRB)  
13.    Notifies IRB of protocol amendments, safety reports and serious adverse events, etc. in compliance with applicable regulations  
14.    Establishes patient/participant screening procedures with Principal Investigator and obtains relevant medical information from patient clinic charts/medical records  
15.    Maintains logs/progress reports to track both currently enrolled as well as follow-up patients/participants, for internal and industry use as applicable  
16.    Determines data to be collected and develops case report forms for collecting/summarizing data  
17.    Maintains and assists clinical research computer database and enters data onto case reports and/or into database as appropriate  
18.    Ensures data integrity and consistency in computer database and written records  
19.    Completes corrections/queries required at audits/monitor visits and takes action to correct deviations as needed  
20.    Establishes/maintains contact with patient participants, health care providers, community agencies and study sponsors  
21.    Acts as a liaison between project teams, research partners, and funding agencies  
22.    Updates appropriate agencies (such as sponsors, IRB, etc.) regarding current status of research projects
23.    Provides in-service education to staff and patients/participants about research protocols
24.    Maintains records for PI-initiated studies on ClinicalTrials.gov

Bachelor’s Degree in relevant field required
