Description

 

Works under the direction of a faculty member. Provides expertise in the design, operation and analysis of experiments or research projects in areas such as chemistry, biology, psychology, sociology, mathematics, statistics, computer science, physics, optometry, all fields of engineering, etc. May prepare samples for testing. Performs advanced testing procedures and performs analyses of data. Prepares reports. Makes uses of a variety of specialized equipment typical within area of specialization. May contribute to grant proposal development. Ensures experiments or research efforts are performed according to specifications. May make recommendations to changes in procedures, processes, or experimental design. May prepare and/or edit research papers, proposals and reports. Possesses, understands, and applies a comprehensive knowledge that crosses fields of specialization. Understands and uses effective management techniques. Duties: Designs, operates and analyzes large experiments or research projects. May serve as liaison with other areas of specialization to obtain support or technical expertise for projects. Recommends major changes in procedures or processes for research investigations. May personally conduct important and/or technically complex investigations. Supervision: Operates with considerable latitude for unreviewed action. Provides direction and supervision of graduate or undergraduate research assistants involved in experiments or research.

Additional Responsibilities:

Under the general guidance of the principal investigator, the Research Associate will be responsible for independently overseeing and carrying out specific research projects in Advanced Physiological Optics Laboratory directed by Dr. Yoon at the University of Houston College of Optometry. The current projects in the laboratory focus on physiological optics, human visual perception and binocular visual functions, and myopia development and control. This position will require significant postdoctoral research experience (at least 3-4 years) and have an initial appointment of 1 year that can be extended on a yearly basis depending on performance and availability of grant funding.

Doctoral and 1 year experience

Additional Qualifications:

Well-qualified candidates will have the following qualifications/ experience:

  • A Ph.D. in vision science or neuroscience is required.
  • Prior experience in visual psychophysics and engineering is preferred; especially experience human behavioral studies and software development with Matlab Psychophysics Toolbox.
  • Experience with and knowledge of statistical and image analysis software would be advantageous.
