Research Assistant

We are looking for a new Research Assistant to facilitate the ongoing research in our lab (https://www.neuroscience.pitt.edu/people/yan-dong-phd).

Preferred candidates will have a BS degree with Mathematics or computational biology-related education background. Prior experience in data mining and small animal maintenance is not required but will be helpful. The position is open for domestic and international candidates.

The job responsibilities include two categories: Data entry and processing and maintenance of rodents in animal facility. 

Animal maintenance 
1) Bookkeeping of animal (mice and rats) numbers, genetic traces. 
2) Monitoring health conditions of animals. 
3) Basic preparation of animals for senior lab members for their experimentation.

Data entry and organization
1)  Sorting and organizing data collected from senior lab members using established software in the lab (training provided). 
2) Maintaining records of collected data.

The position will report to the lab head, who monitors and reviews the performance. 



Job Summary

Performs laboratory testing and some analysis on multiple types of specimen samples. Operates and properly sterilizes equipment and maintains inventory and assists with ordering.

Animal maintenance and data entry/organization are the main reason for the job existence. These two duties must be handled with minimal mistakes. 

The above duties require 100% of the time from this employee. 

If these duties are not performed, the research will not be accomplished in time with the risk of failing this NIH funded project. 

Entry level candidate with BS in computational biology or related fields.
