The Health Science Center (HSC) is looking for a Research Assistant to serve as a member of Dr. Yi Xu’s laboratory team in the Center for Infectious and Inflammatory Diseases. Qualifications

Required Education and Experience:

• Bachelor's degree in the general field of biological sciences.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Knowledge of laboratory maintenance and equipment.

• Knowledge of computers and computer software related to the position.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in biochemistry, molecular biology, microbiology, or cell biology.

• Laboratory research experience in molecular biology, microbiology, biochemistry and animal models of infectious diseases are preferred.

• Applicants should have strong interest in laboratory research.

Essential Duties/Tasks

• Research Experiments - Assists in the design, planning, and coordinating of experiments in support of various research projects. Performs a variety of routine laboratory experiments and procedures including standard molecular biology, microbiology, cell biology, biochemistry, and animal studies.

• Research Data - Keeps detailed records of data. Uses computers and laboratory equipment to perform data analysis, statistical analysis, technical evaluation and presentation of research experiments and results.  Evaluates and summarizes results for insertion in scientific publications and presentations.  

• Collaborations - Conducts literature searches and reviews, attends seminars, lab meetings and journal clubs. Participates in joint projects involving faculty, lab personnel and graduate students. Assists undergraduate and/or graduate students and other laboratory, technical or field staff involved in research. Assists in preparing and writing proposals to funding agencies. 

• Laboratory Maintenance - Installs, operates, and/or repairs research equipment. Assists with maintaining lab equipment, stocks, and ordering supplies and equipment.
