Join our dynamic research group as a Research Assistant and play a pivotal role in advancing scientific discovery. At Navia Lab, we foster a diverse and inclusive environment where every member feels welcome and contributes to our collective success.

Our research aims to understand the mechanisms of chronic pain development and differential susceptibility. We focus on neuro-inmmune interactions, metabolism and gene regulation. The lab aims to find new targets for the development of safe treatments for chronic pain.

JOB SUMMARY

Under general direction, assists investigators by performing moderately complex research and experimentation following established protocols; performs routine lab and equipment maintenance, such as cleaning glassware, counter tops, and equipment; sets-up and operates various scientific apparatus; assists with research projects and may perform independent research; performs various clerical and editorial duties; compiles, processes and analyzes data; may perform some limited supervisory and training duties.

JOB DUTIES

-Maintain and oversee animal colonies, ensuring their well-being and proper husbandry practices.

-Support graduate students and postdoctoral fellows in collecting animal tissue for research purposes.

-Manage laboratory supplies, ensuring stock levels are maintained, and assist in ordering and tracking inventory.

-Perform laboratory techniques including animal handling, breeding, genotyping, animal perfusion, tissue collection, qPCR, and DNA electrophoresis.

-Participate in the publication of scientific manuscripts and contribute to laboratory management tasks such as serving as the EH&S liaison, maintaining lab equipment, and ensuring compliance with safety regulations.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

-Comfortable working with mice

-Previous experience with genotyping, breeding, housing, and husbandry of laboratory animals is --Knowledge of genome editing techniques is desirable.

-Proficiency in animal perfusion, tissue collection, qPCR, and DNA electrophoresis.

-Ability to proactively manage lab supplies and equipment, ensuring timely maintenance and replenishment.

-Strong communication skills, with the capability to articulate ideas, address concerns, and uphold lab policies effectively.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's degree in Science or closely related field

Pay Range: $16.88 - $25.33/hour, pay will be determined based on amount of relevant experience. This position also includes benefits including vacation and sick leave, health/dental/vision/life insurance, 403B retirement savings plan and match, tuition remission, employee assistance program and wellness program.
