Research Assistant Professor

The Department of Surgery at the University of Pittsburgh is inviting applications for the faculty position of Research Assistant Professor. The faculty member will play a key role in collaborative research programs in the application of cutting-edge imaging technologies in regenerative medicine, strokes, and wound healing at the McGowan Institute of Regenerative Medicine (MIRM).
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must have a doctoral degree (Ph.D.) in Physics, minor in Biophysics, and Imaging Science
- Specific experience with the study of prosthetic limb health, wound healing, and strokes using cutting-edge-imaging technologies such as MRI, Ultrasound, and Optothermal imaging is mandatory
- Specific experience with human studies, and pre-clinical models such as rodent, canine, and porcine models of wound healing and strokes.
- 5+ years of research experience working in the academic research environment
- Must be willing to work with animals and human subjects
- Must be able to multitask and show interest in contributing to several projects ongoing in the Center.
Additional:
- Tissue Nanotransfection experience preferred
- Electronic Lab Notebook (e.g., LabGuru) experience preferred
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The qualified scientist will play a major role in a dynamic program in basic and clinical research in both human clinical trials such as prosthetic studies and the application of cutting-edge-imaging technologies in regenerative medicine, strokes, and wound healing in the context of wound healing at the McGowan Institute of Regenerative Medicine (MIRM). The faculty member will be tasked with a strategic scientific focus on the study of prosthetic patients by setting up a GAIT lab and continuing with the pre-clinical and clinical programs in regenerative medicine through the application of cutting-edge-imaging technologies This will include Gait and Agility analysis, pre-clinical rodent model by using the MRI/DTI based tractography of the brain function and for the detection of Diabetic Neuropathy as a function of Aging using Differential Tractography dMRI. Study Clinical trials in regenerative medicine through the application of cutting-edge imaging technologies. As this is a supporting role, the faculty member will be required to partner with interdisciplinary scientists toward translational program building but will not be expected to have regular teaching or service responsibilities external to their research group.
