The UNM PRC is one of 26 PRCs in a network of academic research centers funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).  The centers, located across the United States, study how people and their communities can improve health outcomes and avoid or counter the risks for chronic illnesses.  The centers work in partnership with communities to develop, implement, evaluate and improve initiatives that can promote health and prevent chronic disease.  They also translate research results into policy and practice, and share findings broadly with national, state, and community partners.  The UNM PRC has been continuously funded since 1995 and is conducting dozens of projects that a spectrum of national and state agencies and foundations support.
We seek a candidate who can provide leadership in sustaining and expanding the ongoing robust and exciting research of the PRC, particularly in areas related to behavioral health, children and their families and communities.  The successful candidate will have familiarity with using mixed methods, collecting data, using administrative databases, advanced statistical methods, and disseminating findings for other research professionals as well as for non-scientists.  The candidate will have a track record of writing proposals to obtain support for research studies.  An important role will be to mentor staff and students in conducting community-engaged research.  A strong candidate will have a background in behavioral health, experience working with Spanish-speaking populations and can demonstrate managing the administration and execution of externally funded research projects.
Duties and responsibilities for this position may include:
1. Serves as principal author on reports for publication in peer-reviewed journals as well as for non-scientist policymaker audiences based on original research; presents findings at local, national and international meetings.

4. Maintains currency of knowledge with respect to advanced state-of-the-art data collection, administration and management technologies and systems, and analytic methods; helps the PRC as a whole and colleagues improve the quality of their research and remain competitive in national grant competitions.
5. Serves as principal investigator on multiple projects, defining the scope and direction of the research, leading research design and specifying models, and engaging in planning activities (monitoring budgets, timelines, IRB, COI, etc.) in addition to leading scientific activities.
6. Represents the PRC in external collaboration and communication, including through professional activities in the field (locally and nationally), participation in the national PRC network, and other types of representation.
7. Mentors students and other staff members on research and training professional development.
8. Supervises research staff, student assistants, administrative assistants, and programmers to execute research studies; teaches and advises on research techniques.
9. Prepares grant proposals to obtain additional funding in areas related to prevention research.
