Research Assistant, Primates – Psychology Department

The Cantlon Lab at Carnegie Mellon University is hiring a research assistant for comparative research with non-human primates and humans, specifically, for a new project on logical reasoning development and evolution using behavioral methods. Our laboratory is an interdisciplinary environment, we work on comparative studies across species, age, and culture using multiple cognitive science techniques. Our broader goal is to understand how complex cognition emerges in humans, which cognitive and neural processes are universal across people, and what makes human cognition unique compared to other species.

Your core responsibilities include:

  • Working with primates
  • Designing and program behavioral experiments
  • Conducting data analysis

Qualifications:

  • This position is ideal for a recent Bachelor’s degree graduate who is interested in going to graduate school in cognitive neuroscience, neuroscience, or psychology.
  • Experience working with primates in a cognitive science or neuroscience context, experience with cognitive data collection and analysis, and experience coding in Matlab, Python, R, or related platforms.

  • Successful background check, including child protection clearances

  • This is a twelve month, fixed term position, expected to last through May 2025
