Summary
The Tran lab is seeking a motivated and talented person interested in studying mechanisms of neurodegeneration and axon regeneration in the visual system. The successful candidate will receive direct training from the PI to work independently and contribute to a series of projects focused on the selective resilience and regeneration of retinal ganglion cell types following nerve injury. The Research Assistant will gain hands on experience implementing cutting-edge approaches in molecular biology, gene therapy, disease modeling, and single cell genomics.
Job Duties
- Prepare and conduct laboratory research experiments.
- Meet with the PI weekly and present regularly in lab meetings.
- Maintain an organized electronic lab notebook.
- Perform animal husbandry, weanings, euthanasia as needed.
- Provide support for animal surgeries.
- Maintain accurate animal husbandry and genotyping records.
- Perform single cell transcriptomic experiments and analyses.
- Harvest tissues for immunohistochemistry and in situ hybridization.
- Perform molecular biology approaches including DNA, RNA and protein extractions, molecular cloning, and PCR.
- Perform cell culture and high content imaging experiments.
- Monitor and order lab supplies and reagents as needed.
- Perform assigned general laboratory chores.•
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a Basic Science or a related field.
- Two years of relevant experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in basic science or a related field.
- Experience working with mice or rodents.
- Experience in immunohistochemistry.
- Experience working with DNA/RNA/protein for molecular biology techniques.
- Experience with cell culture.
