Position Summary

The Developmental Speech Lab (DSL) in the Department of Communicative Sciences and Disorders in the College of Communication Arts and Sciences at Michigan State University is seeking a part-time Research Coordinator. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work on a project funded by the National Institutes of Health to better understand how stuttering and its adverse impact develops in children  https://stutteringresearch.msu.edu/ .

We are seeking a highly motivated and organized individual to interact with our team of engaged and dynamic researchers, clinicians, and students to support aspects of our research projects, facilitate smooth operations, and ensure compliance with regulatory standards. This is a 1-year position with the possibility of renewal. 

Responsibilities

  • Interface with families participating in research studies: review screening forms, complete screening calls and schedule participants, email appointment reminders/directions, respond to questions/concerns
  • Data collection and management: Assist with data collection/experimental sessions, data entry, and data storage/backup
  • Participant recruitment: Assist with recruitment efforts: create and distribute fliers, contact speech-language pathologists and pediatrician offices, search for community sources for recruitment
  • Regulatory compliance: Help ensure compliance with the Institutional Review Board, secure FERPA/HIPAA forms from participants
  • Administrative support: Assist the team with research presentations, grant applications, and manuscript preparations
  • Help oversee student research assistants: Hire, train, and supervise student Research Assistants
  • Communication and collaboration: Help promote diversity, equity, and inclusion, and a respectful and supportive environment

Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills

Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in the specific field of research employment or other related science fields; one to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in standard laboratory procedures and safety requirements and performing analytical and research techniques in an area related to research being performed; may require software specific to the area of research; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. The position may require special licensing or certification in the field related to the area of employment.

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Previous experience working in a research laboratory setting, preferably in pediatrics or related fields.
  • Basic computer skills (Microsoft Office Products, Canva)

Description of End Date

This is an off dated position funded for one year from the date of hire with possible extension contingent upon funding renewal.
