SUMMARY
The primary purpose of the Research Assistant I position is to provide technical assistance in carrying out projects related to Drosophila nociception and tissue repair.
KEY FUNCTIONS
· Generate Drosophila stocks useful for studying chemotherapy-induced nociceptive sensitization and other nociception projects in the lab
· Perform behavioral analysis of different genotypes of Drosophila exposed/not exposed to chemotherapy drugs or other pharmacological agents
· Maintain laboratory apparatus and equipment relevant to project
· Acquire working knowledge of fluorescent stereomicroscope and confocal microscope for imaging experiments
· Learn to dissect Drosophila larvae for morphological imaging experiments
· Generate reagents and media relevant to project. Assist with lab Drosophila husbandry.
· Maintain active lab notes with duties and assignments performed
· Other duties as assigned
EDUCATION
Required: Bachelor's degree, major course work in one of the basic sciences.
EXPERIENCE
Required: No experience.
Preferred: Familiarity with genetic analysis and Drosophila genetics in particular.
