Job Title:
Research Assistant (Healing Centered Racial Affinity Group)Job Summary:
The Teacher Education Department (TED) is currently facilitating Healing Centered Racial Affinity groups. The initiative is led by faculty members Farima Pour-Khorshid and Sarah Capitelli. Through this healing centered racial affinity group pilot, our pre-service teacher candidates have had opportunities to build community with more experienced K-12 educators/doctoral student facilitators, as well as their own peers across cohorts and TED programs, as they reflect on and discuss how race and racism shape their experiences and engage in healing centered activities to process and heal from the impacts of racialization within and outside of education institutions. Ultimately, our goal was to take the learning from this pilot endeavor to improve the experiences of our students and our program more broadly. This racial affinity group pilot has also included supporting doctoral students through training, mentorship, planning, and post-reflections throughout their time collaborating with us; reviewing student feedback and data listing the needs and reflections from all group facilitators and participants in order to co-construct a productive learning experience and structure for our sessions together; sharing the data from anonymous student feedback at our departmental meetings to inform our colleagues of issues that students name and strategizing through collaboration on how best to address these issues to improve our Teacher Education program. We piloted the program in Spring 2023 and are in the middle of the first full year of programming this year.Full Job Description:
