Job Description Summary:
Responsible for conducting research in the funded Medicinal Chemistry Core led by Dr. Bossmann. Under general supervision of Post Doctorial Fellow and Dr. Bossmann will performs various organic reactions in the laboratory for the advancement of the Institute of Advancing Innovation and Cancer Biology. This position requires the ability to effectively perform organic and macromolecular synthesis and take responsibility for assuring quality, cost effectiveness and timeliness for projects while working under the limited supervision.
Job Description:

Required Qualifications

Education: Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biology, Molecular Biology, or related field.

Work Experience: Experience performing and documenting organic and macromolecular synthesis in a chemistry laboratory.

Preferred Qualifications

Education: Master's degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biology, Molecular Biology, or related field.

Work Experience: Two or more years of experience working in an academic chemistry laboratory or for a chemical companies performing similar duties.

Skills:

  • Thorough understanding of chemical reactions, formulations, molarity, and macromolecular synthesis.

  • Detail oriented with the ability to perform work accurately, safely, and repeatable.

  • The ability to work both independently and cooperatively in a team environment.

  • Good communication skills needed to accurately document all work in the lab notebook and participate in team discussions regarding the work performed in the lab.

Job Duties Outlined:

Research Overview: Participate in various experiments involving techniques such as chemical synthesis and purification, peptide syntheses, and nanoplatform synthesis.

  • Maintain a current Laboratory Notebook, documenting all calculations, work, experiments, and other pertinent research information.

  • Works with faculty, postdoctoral fellows, graduate students, and research staff by entering data into computer and assisting them in other activities.

  • Generation of data and documentation of research performed for the preparation of published papers, as well as assistance on grant submissions and other documentation necessary for laboratory compliance.

  • Responsible for day-to-day laboratory operations of the lab including maintaining flawless laboratory regulation documentation and certification, maintaining electronic files and notebooks, record keeping and ordering supplies.

  • Participate in regular communication with the PIs and Post Doctorial Fellow via lab meetings and personal to discuss experimental design and interpretation of results.

Compliance: Attend and maintain compliance on all orientation and training sessions designated by the University and the Cancer Biology Department, understand and follow IACUC and biosafety protocols, and attend departmental seminars and regular lab meetings.

Compensation Statement:

The pay range listed for this position is determined by our compensation program using market data and salary benchmarking. A combination of factors is considered in making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, education, experience and training, qualifications relative to the requirements of the position, and funding. At the University of Kansas Medical Center, a reasonable estimate for the starting pay range will be the minimum to midpoint of the posted range, taking into account the combination of factors listed above.
