JOB SUMMARY

The Department of Allied Health Sciences at the University of Connecticut is seeking to hire a dynamic and team-oriented Research Assistant 2 with creative energy to contribute to a culture that values community, inclusion, and excellence. The successful candidate, reporting to Dr. Pablo Valente, will be open-minded, forward-thinking, and collaborative in addressing the needs of the research program. 

The Department of Allied Health Sciences has a vibrant, multidisciplinary faculty dedicated to advancing knowledge through research, teaching, advising, and community engagement. Our research program focuses on understanding and addressing socioeconomic and behavioral determinants of HIV risk and engagement in HIV prevention and treatment care among vulnerable populations with respect to the HIV epidemic, including men who have sex with men, transgender and non-binary people, and people who use drugs. Our ongoing projects are based in the U.S. and Brazil and include mixed-methods research with key populations and healthcare providers to examine barriers and facilitators to accessing HIV prevention and treatment services and to develop educational materials to aid HIV prevention decision-making; behavioral interventions to promote engagement in HIV prevention and treatment care; and brief educational interventions to promote ethics in HIV prevention research. The Research Assistant will support the design and implementation of these different projects, including project management, data collection, analysis, and manuscript writing.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

The successful candidate will lead the day-to-day operations and have direct communication with all project team members, including:

  • Attend and organize team meetings in-person and online.
  • Assist in the development of study documents (e.g., questionnaires, consent forms) and IRB submissions.
  • Engage in recruiting research participants online (e.g., preparing and managing ads on social media platforms) and in-person.
  • Conduct interviews with research participants in-person and online.
  • Administer surveys in person and program survey tools (e.g., Qualtrics).
  • Communicate with other members of the research team and community partners.
  • Conduct literature reviews.
  • Assist with the analysis of qualitative and quantitative data.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Master’s degree in public health, health sciences, psychology, epidemiology, social work, or another health-related field.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Ability to work with and coordinate with a diverse team of partners from academic and community settings.
  • PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Two years of research experience in public health, epidemiology, behavioral, and social sciences, or a health-related field.
  • Experience in data analysis (experience with statistical packages such as Stata, R, SPSS, and/or qualitative software such as Dedoose or NVivo).
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish).
  • APPOINTMENT TERMS

    This is a full-time, 12-month position with a January 2024 start date, subject to annual renewal based on available funding. The position is based in-person in Waterbury, CT; partial remote work modalities may be considered in accordance with the University's Alternate Work Arrangements policy and authorization. Salary will be commensurate with the successful candidate's background and experience. The University offers outstanding medical and retirement benefits.
