Position Focus:

This position is with the Belief, Learning, and Memory Lab, head by Dr. Philip Corlett. This lab focuses on delusion and hallucination research. The team studies the neural basis of human associative learning and belief formation – relating these processes to delusional belief formation.

The position is located at the Wu Tsai Institute (100 College Street, New Haven, CT 06510). The Research Assistant will primarily be working on an online survey and task-based project. This study will investigate self-deception and delusions. The Research Assistant will aid in administering surveys and tasks through Amazon Mechanical Turk and by other online means.

The Research Assistant will help in the analysis of data from online tasks using statistical analysis packages and computational models.

There is additional opportunity for the Research Assistant to be involved in other studies at the lab. These studies may involve functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI), electroencephalogram (EEG), Transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS), etc.


Essential Duties

1. Researches and collects data through site or home visit intakes; library research; structured interviews; or through other means for designated research assignments. 2. Records and compiles information related to research data. Codes data accordingly to research specifications. Uses a computer terminal to input and retrieve data and to generate reports. 3. Processes and summarizes data using scientific or statistical techniques. Assists in data interpretation and analyses. Reports on status of research activities. 4. Recruits study participants and ensures that subject recruitment and follow-up are completed per protocol procedures. 5. Orders and maintains inventory of supplies. May assist in designing, developing, and modifying research experiments, procedures, or survey instruments. May assist research and support staff. 6. Performs additional functions incidental to research activities.


Required Education and Experience

Six years of related work experience, four of them in the same job family at the next lower level, and high school level education; or four years of related work experience and an Associate's degree; or little or no work experience and a Bachelor's degree in a related field; or an equivalent combination of experience and education.


Required Skill/Ability 1:

Proficiency in administering online surveys.


Required Skill/Ability 2:

Proficiency with data collection, entry, and management. Proficiency working with and running scripts on Yale clusters.


Required Skill/Ability 3:

Proficiency in data analysis using statistical analysis packages and computational models. Understanding of concepts behind drift diffusion, Bayesian Gaussian modeling and clustering.


Required Skill/Ability 4:

Proven ability with clinical trials, and/or computer programming. Proficiency and understanding of working with code repositories and shell scripting.


Preferred Education, Experience and Skills:

Bachelor’s degree in related area (such as psychology, neuroscience, public health) required. Background with mathematics and computer science preferred.

Proven experience with Access, Amazon Mechanical Turk, EPRIME, MATLAB, REDCap, SAS, and/ or SPSS is a plus.

Proven experience with clinical populations, specifically individuals experiencing psychosis, preferred.
