What you need to know  


Proposed Minimum Salary: $16.00 hourly


Work Schedule/Location: This is an on-site role with a typical schedule of Monday – Friday 8am to 5pm.

Qualifications

Required Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Six months of related experience in laboratory animal care

Required Licenses and Certifications:

  • Successful completion of any CMP Laboratory Animal Science Course within first year in position.

Required Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of animal care and safety processes.

  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.


Essential Duties/Tasks

Animal Species Care

  • Performs routine handling, cleaning, grooming, feeding, and watering of conventional and specific pathogen free (SPF) research animal species.

  • Observes animals daily to assess health, environmental conditions, and monitors animals for impact of research.
     

Lab Cleaning and Maintenance

  • Follows established protocols and procedures and ensures compliance with applicable Federal, State, and local laws, regulations, and guidelines concerning quality assurance and laboratory animal care and use

  • Performs routine husbandry duties for conventional and specific pathogen free research animal colonies.

  • Maintains lab, storage areas, research animal care areas and treatment rooms daily including sweeping and mopping floors, sanitizing equipment and instruments according to established procedures and documents activities
     

Equipment and Supplies Management

  • Receives and verifies shipments against purchase orders, and other documents; stores animal feed and supplies in a neat and orderly manner; rotates feed as required to ensure freshness; monitors feed supplies to ensure adequate availability.

  • Performs routine maintenance and/or basic mechanical repair to mobile caging, racks, tables, and automatic watering equipment.

  • Transports animals, caging equipment, bulk feed, and bedding materials.
     

Data Management

  • Records daily observations of animals and environmental parameters and reports any issues.

  • Maintains animal histories and other pertinent records as required.
