PED-ADOLESCENT MED RESEARCH (IN-PADB-IUINA)

The Herman B Wells Center for Pediatric Research conducts basic science and translational research within the Department of Pediatrics at Indiana University School of Medicine. The Wells Center houses more than 200 faculty investigators, staff, and trainees seeking answers to the most pressing questions related to childhood illness.

With the collaboration between scientists and physicians, the center aims to increase knowledge of causes and mechanisms of serious pediatric diseases. Our goal is to develop innovative approaches to the diagnosis and treatment of sick children in Indiana and beyond.
 

Pediatric Adolescent Medicine Research seeks a research analyst to assist the Principal Investigator in conducting research experiments in cellular and molecular biology, tissue culture of primary cells and cell lines in monolayer and 3 dimensional raft cultures, retrovirus and lentivirus production, and live and fixed cell imagery requiring expertise in the application and adaptation of various research techniques and procedures.

Department-Specific Responsibilities

  • Coordinates laboratory activities and monitors the progression of research projects.
  • Supervises research technicians and student employees.
  • Participates in protocol development, data analysis and report preparation. These duties include DNA, RNA, and protein purification, DNA cloning, PCR of DNA and RNA products, protein analyses, flow cytometry, cellular growth and senescence assays, tissue culture, three dimensional raft culture production and fixation, tissue culture transfections, transduction, and analysis.
  • Responsible for general laboratory organization such as maintenance and management of protocols, reagents, sample logs, cloning logs, and databases of experiments, inclusive of data management as required by funding agencies, orders for the laboratory, budget management, and supporting manuscript and grant drafting with the Principal Investigator for the laboratory's research.

General Responsibilities

  • Performs complex and intricate laboratory experiments while following research techniques and procedures.
  • Develops procedures and protocols in collaboration with leadership.
  • Prepares research reports or analyses for projects.
  • Maintains safety records and ensures safety/compliance procedures and protocols are followed.
  • Provides guidance and support to junior-level staff in laboratory operations.
  • May develop, prepare, and coordinate grant applications and grant-related activities to obtain funding for research projects and related work.

EDUCATION

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in related field.

Preferred

  • Master's degree in related field. 

WORK EXPERIENCE

  • 3 years related work experience.

The role regularly requires the ability to effectively communicate. The role frequently requires the ability to move about the work environment and to position oneself to operate laboratory equipment effectively. The role requires the ability to move objects weighing up to 25 pounds and will occasionally work near moving mechanical parts. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.

$55,000 - $65,000 per year based on experience, skill level, education, and training.
