Position Summary
The UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center, founded in 1975, is one of 47 National Cancer Institute (NCI)-designated comprehensive cancer centers in the country. The Center’s mission is to reduce cancer occurrence and death in North Carolina and the nation through research, treatment, training, and outreach.
The primary purpose of the Research Administrator is to manage the administrative infrastructure for the rapidly growing Advanced Cellular Facility of the UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center. The position will be responsible for all strategic planning, financial management, and research administration activities for the facility. The position will prepare budgets, oversee contract negotiations, chair the CAR T steering committee, and ensure compliance with all relevant federal and state regulations. The position will be responsible for the administration of the program’s combined $10M+ sponsored research portfolio. This position will also be responsible for helping to increase external marketing of services to biotechnology companies as well as other academic institutions. The Research Administrator will be expected to know the correct and appropriate funding mechanisms and understand the policies and procedures around running a NIH approved research core facility.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Mid- to late-career with Masters and 2- 4 yrs experience; Bachelors and 3-5 yrs experience
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Individual must have experience with all areas related to GAAP (generally accepted accounting principles) as it relates to commercial business. Significant experience with budgeting, generation of financial statements and understanding of the revenue cycles for commercial business. Experience working with revenue coming from grants, contracts and payments to the vendor and experience with managing a portfolio of this complexity for payment. Experience with state and federal regulations regarding manufacturing of biological products. Experience with financial projects and forecasting revenue projections for businesses.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
MBA or a Masters in Accounting. GAAP experience for an academic program that generated commercial products. Experience in academic or non-for profit business generating commercial products.
