Position Overview

The Ohio State University Office of Advancement Reporting and Analytics team is searching for a Reporting and Analytics Senior Analyst to provide comprehensive analysis, insights, observations, and strategic recommendations to business partners. This position will work with business partners to formulate and execute campaign testing (A-B tests, sample size calculations); providing analytical assessment and reporting of campaign performance, and the presentation and communication of results to stakeholders in order to inform and shape future strategy.

The Senior Analyst will design, develop, implement, and maintain enterprise reports, dashboards and scorecards using diverse data sets from enterprise systems and will be instrumental in providing and translating analysis, and ad hoc decision support to address strategies that increase the awareness, engagement and giving of our constituents. The Senior Analyst is responsible for the development and implementation of measurement and analytics strategies designed to ensure appropriate operational models; to monitor and evaluate applicable metrics to compare and analyze data to support strategic engagement and fundraising decisions and process improvements; to ensure communication with business partners and synthesize data into useful and insightful information; and to write and automate tools and scripts to increase efficiency and reduce manual efforts.

The Senior Analyst will independently design and build data visualizations using diverse data sets and will be instrumental in developing and translating analysis, data modeling and ad hoc decision support. This includes data analysis and reporting to enhance operational efficiency, encouraging data driven decisions and promoting a higher level of data consumption as well as best practices to improve services and processes of strategic importance to the teams.

The Senior Analyst must have excellent verbal and written communication skills including the ability to autonomously translate complex technical concepts in non-technical business terms; strong interpersonal skills with a passion for building and maintaining strategic partnerships, work independently and as part of a team, have the ability to balance competing priorities, manage multiple concurrent and complex projects, identify problems and anticipate needs, resolve problems, create and maintain documentation for processes, exceptions and decision making criteria for projects and ongoing processes, be able to flex and adapt to changing environments and leadership.

Duties and Responsibilities

Data Analysis and Data Mining Performs analysis and interpretation of data to identify significant patterns and trends that generate actionable insights that guide strategic planning efforts; Performs analysis and interpretation of data to demonstrate fundraising outcomes, within specified timeframes and frequencies; Prepares and presents reports and recommendations for business partners in a manner that is understandable by non-technical and/or non-statistical staff; Partners with additional Advancement teams as needed to provide ad hoc reports.

Creation of Reports, Dashboards and Scorecards: Gathers user requirements, creates custom queries, designs, builds and operates enterprise reports and dashboards that integrate multiple sources of data from enterprise systems, identifies actionable insights and conclusions, and translates complex results into simple visualizations that will empower business partners to take decisive action; Develops trend analysis reports that monitor key performance indicators and compares them to internal and external benchmarks and uses this data to assist in decision-making, planning and implementing performance improvement strategies; Analyzes report/dashboard results with a focus on explaining changes, inconsistencies and any patters that are identified; Partners with additional Advancement teams as needed to provide ad hoc analysis.

Consultation & Business Partnership Collaborates with business partners to understand and design analytical approaches to open-ended strategic business problems and communicates the findings to key stakeholders through reports, presentations, storytelling and thoughtful discussion; Collaborates with business partners to determine scope of projects, identify and define key metrics of performance and implementation requirements; Collaborates with business partners in order to identify trends and opportunities to improve and maximize awareness, engagement and revenue; Contributes to sharing and documenting analytical approaches, code and resulting knowledge across the enterprise; Becomes a subject matter expert and trusted advisor in the engagement and fundraising analytics discipline.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Four (4) years of relevant experience

  • Experience gathering user requirements and translating ambiguous business problems into a conceptual analytical and technical architecture

  • A demonstrated ability to learn, acquire and utilize new technologies, disciplines, and frameworks

  • Experience presenting useable insights to business partners and recommending courses of action

  • Intermediate level of experience using Excel including the ability to build PivotTables

  • Driven, self-motivated, team player adept at working in an environment with competing priorities

  • Curious problem solver by nature; able to quickly make sense of complex data issues

  • Desire to constantly learn and teach others what you know

  • Demonstrated ability of balancing and prioritizing numerous requests while providing visibility to stakeholders

  • Experience using SQL with preference to Microsoft T-SQL

  • Excellent customer service skills

  • Demonstrated experience developing dashboards using enterprise data visualization tools like Tableau, Qlik, PowerBI, Cognos, MicroStrategy, Business Objects, OBIEE, etc.

  • Bachelor’s degree in data Analytics, Statistics, Applied Math, Computer Science, Computer Information Systems or Management Information Systems, Marketing, Psychology, or related field

  • 4+ years of experience presenting useable insights to business partners and recommending courses of action

  • Master's Degree

  • Advanced level of experience using Excel

  • Experience in the non-profit fundraising space

  • 2+ years of experience using SQL with preference to Microsoft T-SQL

  • 2+ years of experience developing dashboards using enterprise data visualization tools like Tableau, Qlik, PowerBI, Cognos, MicroStrategy, Business Objects, OBIEE, etc.

  • Experience working with Salesforce Marketing Cloud

  • Experience with a CRM system (preferably Blackbaud)

The pay range for this job profile is $73,100 - $97,500 (min - mid). The offer for this position will fall within this range based on internal equity, unit's available budget, and the candidate's qualifications.
