Job Summary

The Rehabilitative Services Aide, the H_A II, report to the therapists of a particular service and provides both direct and indirect patient care services. At this level, the employee is responsible for the treatment of patients who require the direct supervision and daily guidance of an  occupational, physical and/or speech therapist. The Rehabilitative aide works primarily with adult, geriatric, adolescent patients from diverse socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds, although pediatric patients may be treated. The Rehabilitative aide actively participates in departmental and organizational programs, including performance improvement activities, inservices and staff development activities.

Required Qualifications


  • Possession of a high school diploma.
  • Possession of or proven eligibility for CPR certification.
  • Basic computer skills in word processing and online communication.
  • Prior clinical base experience requiring interaction with patients.

  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to recognize signs of distress.
  • This position requires flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Medical Center locations.
  • Possession of excellent interpersonal, time management, problem solving, and self-initiation skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior outpatient patient care experience working with sports medicine, orthopedic and neurologic patients in an interdisciplinary team.
  • Prior experience working in an academic medical center environment.
  • College degree in a related field.
  • Holds advanced certifications such as ATC, CSCS, or other relevant professional certification.
  • Knowledge of basic medical terminology.
  • Ability to use Excel.
  • Knowledge of rehab equipment including modalities, Alter-G, BTE, TRX, treadmill, body weight harness.

License/Certification

  • Possession of or proven eligibility for CPR certification.
