Position Summary
The University of Idaho’s Department of Art & Design seeks applications for a full-time tenure track Assistant Professor in Visual Design. The Art and Design faculty member is expected to teach according to the needs of the program and as directed by the Department Chair. The faculty member will conduct research in the field of visual design; publish research in peer reviewed journals or curate or exhibit in solo and/or group exhibitions regionally, nationally, and internationally; present findings at professional conferences, and submit proposals to extramural agencies to fund this work. The faculty member is expected to participate in some outreach activities as directed by their chair or dean. The faculty member is expected to attend faculty meetings, and to participate in committees at the department level and the college and/or university level.
Description of Expectations
This faculty member is expected to teach a 2:3 load in Art and Design according to the needs of the department and as directed by the department chair. The faculty member will conduct research in art and design and design outreach; publish such research in peer reviewed journals or exhibit in solo and/or group exhibitions regionally, nationally, and internationally; present findings at professional conferences, and submit proposals to extramural agencies to fund this work. The faculty member is expected to attend faculty meetings, and to participate in
committees at the department level and the college or university level. In addition, this faculty member will serve in regional and national extramural organizations.

Qualifications


Minimum Education/Degree Required Listed degree qualification is required at time of hire.
Required Qualifications
  • Applicants must have a Masters of Fine Arts or related degree in an Art or Design discipline or a PhD in a related field or equivalent terminal degree.
  • Evidence of a scholarly/exhibition.
  • Experience teaching both designers and studio artists.
  • Evidence of a studio practice/portfolio.
Preferred Qualifications

  • Teaching at the undergraduate or graduate level.
  • Established professional collaborations.
  • MFA in Communication Design or closely related terminal degree.
  • Demonstrated experience equivalent to 2 years fulltime teaching beyond graduate teaching at the university-level.
  • Work collaboratively with faculty in other disciplines.
  • Knowledge of current contemporary design practices.
  • Knowledge of current technology trends in the creative disciplines including computer hardware, software, and other relevant design tools.
