Hourly range for Registered Nurses $38.26-$59.35 / hour
Evening Shift Differential-$3.00 / hour
Night Shift Differential- $4.00 / hour
Day Shift Weekend Differential- $2.90 / hour
Evening Shift Weekend Differential- $5.90 / hour

Night Shift Weekend Differential- $6.90 / hour

Charge Nurse Differential- $1.00 / hour

Responsibilities*

We are actively seeking highly qualified candidates who will provide compassionate care to adult patient populations in the Medical Procedures Units at University Hospital. Candidates should be enthusiastic and patient-oriented individuals who are interested in creating the ideal experience for our patients, families, and employees, reporting directly to a Nursing Supervisor.  Candidates should be able to provide patient care to patients receiving various medical procedures including but not limited to endoscopy procedures.

Candidates will coordinate nursing care between the pre-procedure, intra-procedure, and post-procedure phases, which may include directing other registered nurses, endoscopy technicians and ancillary health care staff. 

Under direction of a Charge Nurse and/or Clinical Supervisor, the candidate may function in the endo tech role tech which includes supporting procedures, preparing readiness of procedure room, assisting with biopsies and other interventions, along with room turnover per infection prevention policy.

Candidates will administer sedation/analgesia under the direction of a physician. 

Candidates may be required to wear lead for extended periods of time. 

Candidates will assess and document hemodynamic status during sedation and post-procedure phases.  Initiates and maintains peripheral intravenous lines. 

Candidate should be able to provide patient and family centered education and discharge teaching on based on learning needs.


Nursing Specific Info

Salary & Nursing Framework Level:
This UMPNC RN posting is posted as Nursing Framework LEVEL C.
Actual Nursing Framework LEVEL and salary will be determined at time of hire.
Nursing Framework levels range from Level A to Level F.

Required qualifications must be met by the candidate in order to be interviewed and considered for the position. Posting may be filled after the initial 5-day posting period. Applicants who have left the UMPNC bargaining unit must include on their resume dates of past employment including months and years of service along with effort. Positions less than 20 hours/week may be combined.

Required Qualifications*
  • Current licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) to practice nursing in the state of Michigan.
  • Minimum two (2) years of RN experience (at full time status) within the past five (5) years in any of the following specialties: PACU, ICU, ED, OR/Procedural, Flight Nurse, or as a Sedation Analgesia Professional.
  • Current ACLS certification.
  • Ability to initiate IV line
  • Ability to stand for an extended period of time

Desired Qualifications*
  • Gastrointestinal Endoscopy or procedural nursing experience in an acute care setting.
  • BSN
  • Clinical nursing certification in Gastroenterology
  • Completion of IV Conscious Sedation course
  • Demonstrate excellence in communication skills; verbal and written.
  • Excellent attendance as evidenced by previous work performance evaluations and or attendance record.
  • Demonstrate ability to establish and maintain collaborative multi-disciplinary team relationships; prioritize duties, and multi-task with minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrate excellence in customer service skills.  Candidate should be able to provide examples during the interview.
  • Proficiency using and documenting in an electronic medical record.
  • Ability to problem-solve independently.
  • Demonstrate accountability to Departmental and Regulatory requirements.

Demonstrate flexibility in accepting changing clinical assignments on short notice.


Work Schedule

Hours/week: 40 hours/week

Shift Days: 10-hour shifts: Variable days and variable hours between 7am-10pm. Day/evening/weekend rotation.

Some evening and weekend on-call required.

Some Holiday on-call required.

Location Medical Procedures Unit, University Hospital 


All new employees will be expected to float to a designated unit(s) in times of low census.

This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the Michigan Nurses Association and the U-M Professional Nurse Council union, which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours and other terms and conditions of employment.


Background Screening
