Job Summary

For more than 50 years the ZSFG Renal Center has provided life-sustaining treatment for some of San Francisco's most vulnerable residents while discovering new ways to improve the care of patients with kidney disease.

The RN will assess, create treatment plans, and educate chronic hemodialysis patients. They also actively participate in assisting physicians with medical assessment to ensure dialysis adequacy.

Department Description

The Nephrology Division spans multiple campuses with faculty and staff located at the UCSF Parnassus, Laurel Heights, San Francisco Veterans Affairs Medical Center (SFVAMC), and Zuckerberg San Francisco General (ZSFG). The Nephrology Division consists of over 100 faculty, fellows, and staff whose work is grounded in deep commitment to, and respect for patients with kidney disease.

The Division has approximately 40 faculty members, 15 admin and research staff, 16 fellows, and an annual budget of $11.1 million. For over 50 years, the Nephrology Division has employed and trained leaders in academic nephrology, superb clinical research scientists and basic scientists, and outstanding clinical nephrologists. Our faculty are leading experts in adult nephrology: including acute kidney injury, chronic kidney disease, hypertension, electrolyte disorders, and kidney transplantation. Our mission continues in this tradition: expanding the frontiers of basic and clinical investigation in nephrology, training the next generation of academic nephrology leaders and providing the highest level of patient care. Our division within and the UCSF School of Medicine overall provides a premier academic environment for faculty and trainees to provide outstanding clinical care and to be at forefront of kidney research worldwide.

Required Qualifications

  • BSN
  • Six (6) months of clinical experience
  • Knowledges and abilities essential to the successful performance of the duties assigned to the position
  • Experience working with hemodialysis patients
  • Ability to cannulate fistula/graft access  
  • Ability to stand on feet for 12 hours
  • Ability to hear audio alarms  
  • Ability to identify color codes

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bilingual – Spanish/Tagalog/Chinese
  • Two (2) years experience as Hemodialysis nurse
  • Certified Nephrology Nurse 

License/Certification

  • Active CA Registered Nurse license
  • Active American Heart Association CPR Certification
