Summary

This is a dual-unit RN position, which involves staffing assignments on two units, per the agreement with UMPNC, Section H, page 55, Multi-Unit Positions.

Units for this position include Pediatric Dialysis and Pediatric Intensive Care Unit; holidays and PTO will be determined from the home unit. 

The RN can be scheduled on either of the two units, based on the unit's staffing needs and will be expected to staff on either unit, as needed.

Hourly range for Registered Nurses $38.26-$59.35 / hour

Responsibilities*

Provide expert nursing care to pediatric dialysis patients and families, including ongoing management of dialysis needs, patient assessment, and phone triage.
Communicate and collaborate with nephrologists.
Provide hemodialysis treatments including but not limited to: initiating, continual monitoring/assessing, and terminating treatments for all acute and/or chronic pediatric patients.
Participate in ongoing management of the chronic pediatric dialysis patient via monthly interdisciplinary patient care rounds. Provide nursing care to pediatric peritoneal dialysis patients both manually and with the Home Choice.
Participate in CQI Projects.
Provide primary nursing care to the chronic pediatric dialysis patient as assigned by the Clinical Nursing Supervisor.
Participate in the On-Call schedule under the guidelines of UMPNC and Pediatric Dialysis Coverage Policy.  


Nursing Specific Info

Salary & Nursing Framework Level:
This UMPNC RN posting is posted as Nursing Framework LEVEL C
Actual Nursing Framework LEVEL and salary will be determined at time of hire.
Nursing Framework levels range from Level A to Level F.

Required qualifications must be met by the candidate in order to be interviewed and considered for the position.

Required Qualifications*

Current license to practice Nursing in the State of Michigan2 years of current Pediatric ICU experiencePALS certification is required (or within six (6) months of date of hire) or MUST be completed prior to end of probationary period . In order to be considered for this position the applicant must have met or will have met all the required qualifications prior to the start date of employment.

Desired Qualifications*

BSN PreferredCRRT experiencePediatric or Adult Dialysis RN nursing experience Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Demonstrated excellent critical thinking skills.
Demonstrated organizational skills and ability to multitask
Experience with and knowledge of current interventional and pharmacological treatment of the pediatric dialysis patient population
Highly motivated and self-directed with demonstrated ability to function both independently and as a team member.


Work Schedule

Hours: 36 hours/week **This position has on-call responsibility.
Shift: Day shift, 12  hour shifts
Location: Mott Children's Hospital - Pediatric Dialysis and Pediatric ICU; this is a dual unit position with the home unit being Pediatric Dialysis. 


Union Affiliation

This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the Michigan Nurses Association and the U-M Professional Nurse Council union, which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours and other terms and conditions of employment.
