Job Summary

The External Experienced RN Training Program (EETP) is a training program designed for experienced RNs who are looking to change or enhance their specialty practice. This program is open to external RNs who are not currently employed by UCSF Medical Center. The program begins July 8th, 2024.

The program will be a combination of clinical preceptorship and didactic instruction. The subsequent time frame will consist of autonomous clinical rotations partnered with a buddy/resource RN.

  • Utilizes the nursing process for assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation to provide safe, therapeutic care
  • Functions as a member of the interdisciplinary and nursing teams•Carries out established nursing procedures and performs related duties as required
  • Performs nursing care for patients with more complex needs with assistance and supervision
  • Assists with the management of patient care administered by other members of the nursing team

Please note: The compensation ranges listed online for roles not covered by a bargaining unit agreement are very wide, however a job offer will typically fall in the range of 80% - 120% of the established mid-point. An offer will take into consideration the experience of the final candidate AND the current salary level of individuals working at UCSF in a similar role.

For roles covered by a bargaining unit agreement, there will be specific rules about where a new hire would be placed on the range.


Department Description

The Pediatric Infusion Center at Mission Bay service the Pediatric Specialty population at UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital. The treatments include but are not limited to apheresis, chemotherapy, biotherapy, immunotherapy, blood transfusions, hydration and electrolyte therapy, injections and blood draws, enzymes and iron infusions, and antibiotics. The center consists of 13 chairs/beds and treatments include research and standard of care infusions. The infusion centers are staffed by Nurses, Medical Assistants, and a Practice Coordinator.

This position requires the incumbent to utilize the nursing process for assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation to provide safe, therapeutic care.  Functions as a member of the interdisciplinary and nursing teams; carries out established nursing procedures and performs related duties as required; performs nursing care for patients with complex needs.  Manages patient care administered by other members of the nursing team.  Recognized as a leader and clinical resource.  Demonstrates investment in the overall forward movement of the practice and the organization.


Required Qualifications

  • Two (2) or more years of recent direct patient care as an RN experience in an adult or pediatric acute care setting
  • Experience administering infusions, pain management, transfusion therapy, hydration, etc.
  • Active Registered Nurse licensure in the State of California
  • Active American Heart Association CPR certification
  • Current APHON Biotherapy/Chemotherapy Provider Certification within 6 months of hire date
  • The flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Health locations

License/Certification

  • Active Registered Nurse licensure in the State of California
  • Active American Heart Association CPR certification
  • Current APHON Biotherapy/Chemotherapy Provider Certification within 6 months of hire date
