Registered Dietitian Nutritionist

As a provider in Counseling & Psychological Services, the Registered Dietitian Nutritionist will provide nutrition assessment and counseling to students at BYU.  This individual will work closely with faculty/clinicians who are part of the Eating Disorder Treatment Team.

What you'll do in this position:

Clinical duties include:

  • Provide assessment, consultation, and brief intervention for nutritional concerns and/or disorders across the spectrum of nutrition care, as needed: eating disorders, disordered eating, sports nutrition, food allergies, pre-diabetes, chronic disease management, and special diet management, in addition to other nutritional needs in an outpatient primary care setting
  • Facilitate appropriate referrals to specialty care, campus services, and community services and/or providers
  • Provide effective treatment, planning and assistance to clients for successfully achieving goals
  • Familiarity with co-existing conditions such as body dysmorphia, depression, and anxiety
  • Motivational interviewing skills
  • Evaluate crisis situations and apply appropriate interventions
  • Work as a member of the interdisciplinary treatment team of health care professionals to plan and implement a strategy of care for patients, (including referral to community) as needed
  • Communicate timely information directly to members of the treatment team

Nutrition Education duties include:

  • Conduct needs assessment and/or integrate information from other sources for the planning, development, implementation and evaluation of specialty nutrition education programs
  • Be available for student organizations and groups for nutrition programming covering subjects such as sports nutrition, body image and disordered eating/eating disorders

What qualifies you for this role:

Required

  • Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN)
  • Experience with nutrient analysis, word processing, presentation software, and Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA)
  • Ability to gather weight history and assess for the need for weight restoration 
  • Knowledge of eating disorder/disordered eating signs and symptoms, as well as appropriate interventions
  • Comprehensive knowledge and application of medical nutrition therapy, including interviewing and education techniques
  • Self-motivation and ability to work independently
  • Excellent time management, organizational, and record-keeping skills
  • Must have a strong commitment to nutrition education, possess excellent written and oral communication skills, experience presenting to groups of variable size, and ability to work with high intensity patients and families
  • Experience working with interdisciplinary teams

Preferred

  • Masters degree in nutrition, dietetics, or in a related field (e.g. health education)
  • Experience in nutrition education
  • Experience in a clinical counseling setting
  • Experience working with college-age populations, specifically with disordered eating
  • Knowledge of and alignment with the Health at Every Size approach with awareness of weight stigma and size diversity
  • Knowledge of and ability to utilize Intuitive Eating principles and approaches to help clients heal their relationship with food
  • Able to provide structured eating guidelines based on individual food preference to re-establish balanced eating patterns in preparation for restoring hunger and fullness cues
