Cornell Cooperative Extension (CCE) provides the educational outreach functions for Cornell University’s role as New York State’s Land Grant University. The CCE Regional Agriculture Programs provide expertise and other programmatic support to the CCE 10 regional ag teams across the state. As the Regional Agriculture Team Support Specialist, this position will work closely with the Assistant Director for Regional Ag Teams, CALS IT, Fleet Services, HR, the Administrative Management Groups (AMGs), and Finance staff within Cornell University and Cornell Cooperative Extension to support the operations of the regional agriculture programs. 

What You Will Do

You will provide management support to ensure the vision for regional programs will be implemented by the Cornell Cooperative Extension system. Support Assistant Director in managing AMG meetings with scheduling, agendas, minutes, and follow-up. Additionally, you will support the Assistant Director for CCE Regional Teams on personnel processes, including recruitment, hiring, onboarding/offboarding, early career support, and reappointment. Specific duties include:

  • Maintain an inventory of all equipment utilized by the regional teams and work with specialists/team leaders/support departments (CALS IT, Fleet Garage, etc.) on a regular schedule of replacement for computers, fleet vehicles, cell phones, and other required equipment.

  • Collaborate with the Assistant Director and Finance staff to develop and manage regional program budgets, grants, and contracts. 

  • Communicate regularly with regional program specialists and stakeholders regarding information and issues related to the management of area teams.

  • Provide support and oversight to program development and reporting processes for area teams, including team updates of annual plans of work, implementation plans, and quarterly and annual reports.

  • Serve as the point person/liaison for the area team websites with the web consultant and integration with CALS web presence.

  • Provide support for the recruitment and onboarding processes for new specialists, technicians, and administrative staff. 

  • Assist with reappointment and promotion processes for academic employees.

  • Ensure regional program agreements and accompanying operating guidelines are accurate and up-to-date.

What We Need

We are looking for a talented individual that excels at building and maintaining effective relationships with multiple stakeholders. We need someone who appreciates agriculture and is dedicated to improving lives across New York State by connecting communities with research from Cornell University. Additionally, we need someone who has:

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field and 3+ years of experience in business and/or organizational management or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Demonstrated abilities in large program administration within a highly complex organization.

  • Ability to work as part of a professional team, promoting cooperation as well as exercising independent judgment to carry out a discrete program.

  • Demonstrated skills in building and maintaining effective working relationships within all levels of an organization and outside an organization.

  • Proven ability to work as part of a diverse team that includes program, human resources, finance, other administrative and information technology personnel, and faculty on and off campus. 

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, clearly and effectively with team members, stakeholders and clients

  • Ability to utilize technology to create spreadsheets and other analytics and reporting tools.

  • Strong organizational skills, including accuracy, quality and attention to detail; responsive and timely in completing requested assistance and assigned tasks; and effective time management to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.

  • Experience managing multiple projects, schedules, and priorities in a deadline-driven environment.

  • Demonstrated ability in managing projects with numerous stakeholders and collaborators.

  • Experience recognizing different points of view and building consensus.

  • Knowledge of how to balance conflicting priorities, make informed choices, and use sound judgment in completing urgent tasks.

  • Ability to lift up to 20 pounds.

  • Must be able to meet the travel requirements of the position, including having reliable transportation or having and maintaining a valid New York State driver’s license.

  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and/or weekends, as appropriate.

  • Must exercise sound and ethical judgment when acting on behalf of the University.

  • Experience in and/or demonstrated commitment to supporting diversity, equity, access, inclusion, and well-being.

  • Experience working directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds.

  • Master’s Degree.

  • Experience in a higher education setting.

  • Knowledge of Cornell Cooperative Extension system and associations.

  • Understanding, experience, and appreciation for agriculture/food systems in New York State.

This position is full-time (40 hours/week) and will be located in New York State. Moderate travel (approximately 10%) will be required throughout New York State.

There is the opportunity to work remotely within New York State for most of the work week; an onsite presence is required a minimum of one day per week.
