Job Summary

Under general supervision, incumbent will serve as working leader of a multi-trade team. The Refrigeration Lead  may assume responsibility for the crew in the absence of a supervisor. This activity involves performing the work of the specialized field, assigning work orders, monitoring work orders, ensuring completion and recording of work orders, explaining tasks to co-workers, assisting with training of co-workers, maintaining time and material records, and assisting with performance evaluations, as requested. Receives general direction from supervisor and provides leadership a minimum of 25% of the time, to at least one skilled worker, depending on complexity of the particular job or project.

Department Description

The Facilities Services Department (FS) is committed to creating an exceptional campus physical environment to support the research, teaching, health care and community service mission of the University. FS employs over 465 professional staff/contractors and acts as steward for over $95 million in operating funds and $28 million in capital funds annually to achieve its goals in operating, maintaining, and renewing the UCSF campus environment consisting of 9 million GSF of research, clinical, administrative, and auxiliary services space. Located in the Campus Life Services organization, FS is organized into 5 distinct units: (1) Operations & Maintenance, including Custodial Services (380 FTE), (2) Engineering & Utilities (45 FTE), (3) Infrastructure & Renewal Programs (20 FTE), (4) Customer Service & Technology (15 FTE), and (5) the Office of the Assistance Vice Chancellor (7 FTE).

Required Qualifications

  • Ability to read, write and perform basic arithmetic calculations; two years of experience at the operational level in an appropriate craft; and knowledges and abilities essential to the successful performance of the duties assigned to the position.
  • Experience coordinating several construction and maintenance projects concurrently including developing estimates, tracking cost and forecasting maintenance budget in assigned area.
  • Proven skillfulness in leadership and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Journeyperson in HVAC/Low Voltage Controls and Refrigeration
  • Research environment work experience
  • California State Licensing Board C-20 - Warm-Air Heating, Ventilating and Air-Conditioning Contractor License/Certification or Equivalent Demonstrated Experience
  • California State Licensing Board C-7 – Low Voltage Systems Contractor License/Certification or Equivalent Demonstrated Experience.
  • California State Licensing Board C-38 Refrigeration License/Certification or Equivalent Demonstrated Experience,
  • CFC (Chlorofluorocarbon Refrigerant Handling Certification) Certification
  • Ability to oversee work and provide feedback and direction
  • Proficient in basic computer skills and applications.
  • Experience with CMMS such as Maximo, SAP
  • Experience with planning and scheduling at the working team level
