Department Description

Campus Recreation is a department within the Division of Student Affairs that provides fitness, wellness and recreation programs to the campus community through the operation and administration of the following: The Activities and Recreation Center (ARC), Pavilion, LivingWell Program, Competitive Sports, Equestrian Center, Craft Center, Outdoor Adventures, Aquatics Program with two pool facilities, Youth Programs, Competitive Sports, the Cal Aggie Marching Band.



Job Summary

Under general supervision of the Associate Director of Recreation, serve as Assistant Director of Member Services units of Campus Recreation. Manage the IR activities in the Activities & Recreation Center (ARC)/Pavilion, including scheduling, supervision, and maintenance for the exercise studios, 4-court gym, Multi-use Activity Court (MAC), racquetball/squash courts, and fitness room. Responsible to ensure maintenance of the cardio equipment distributed throughout the facility. Manage Membership Services for Campus Recreation including, but not limited to, access eligibility, membership drives and payment options. Supervise career and student staff, and provide student development opportunities. Assist in planning, development and management of the budgets and fiscal management software systems for areas of oversight, including the UCDMC Fitness Center.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Regular schedule will include evenings/nights and weekend shifts. This position is considered a designated employee and must be available during emergencies.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Education/Experience:           

  • Management experience in a recreational fitness environment in addition to knowledge of fitness and recreation equipment.
  • Supervision and leadership experience to recruit, hire, train, and evaluate staff in a recreation setting.
  • Experience with budget development and skills to monitor expenditures.
  • Oral and written skills to communicate and interact with others in a clear, concise, effective, courteous and professional manner. Experience with computer applications such as Microsoft, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and database management.
  • Customer service, communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with patrons, colleagues, professionals, and administrators as well as experience in providing oral presentations to large groups to facilitate group discussion and educational programs.

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA) :

  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with culturally diverse students, staff, faculty, and others in the university community.
  • Management and organizational skills to plan, organize/determine workload priorities, meet deadlines, direct numerous and varied projects and activities, and to follow-up and troubleshoot issues.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preferred Education/Experience:           

  • Master’s degree in related area and/ or equivalent experience/training.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA) :

  • Skills to interpret and advise department personnel on policies and procedures.
  • Skills to communicate with patrons of ARC and answer member complaints, questions and concerns.
  • Knowledge of Fusion and Freedom Pay software.
