The Life Alliance Organ Recovery Agency https://www.laora.org/ at the University of Miami is currently seeking a full time Recovery Coordinator to work in Miami, FL. The Recovery Coordinator (UM LAORA) is responsible for recovery, packaging, preservation and transportation of cadaveric organs to be used in surgical transplants. The incumbent also ensures organ recovery activities are in accordance with all applicable regulatory standards and operating procedures. Also, this employee provides preservation support for local, regional, and national recoveries.

CORE JOB FUNCTIONS                                                                                                     

  • Works with surgical staff in the clinical recovery, preservation, and transportation of tissues.

  • Operate kidney preservation machine and maintain accurate clinical preservation records while on preservation duty.

  • Documents all recovery activities completely and accurately.

  • Assists with maintaining recovery instruments and equipment.

  • Provides training and continuing education to all recovery personnel.

  • Orders, stocks, receives, and rotates all durable and consumable supplies.

  • Works with other recovery agencies to ensure good working relationships and customer service.

  • Ensures recovery was done in accordance with regulatory agencies’ policies.

  • Ensures compliance with all OSHA and HIPPA protocols.

  • Maintains logs on all equipment and schedules monthly cleaning of recovery suite(s).

  • Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS                                                                                                  

Education:

  • Associate’s Degree or medical certification, Licensure/Registration, Surgical Technician

  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred

  • CPTC Certification a plus

Experience:

  • Two years clinical experience/critical care experience

  • Relevant combination of education and work experience will be considered

  • Hospital Operating Room and/or Surgical Tech experience preferred.

Department Specific Functions

  • Coordinates with the staff in operating room for local procurements and abroad (i.e. requiring flight transportation) with clinical recovery and preservation of organs for transplantation, and undertakes extensive communications with transplant center, according to established guidelines.

  • Operate kidney preservation machine and maintain accurate clinical preservation records while on preservation duty.

  • Maintain current knowledge and enforce legal requirements of organ donation.

  • Transport the organs to the lab, hospitals or transplant centers where it will be used following instructions from the transplant center.

  • Responsible for packaging and transportation arrangements (in accordance with UNOS guidelines) for exportation of organ(s) outside LAORA service area.

  • Work according to a call schedule of assigned duties and hours and remain within pager radius to assure that response to all pages will occur in a timely fashion.

  • Assist in the maintenance of the perfusion laboratory including the maintenance of an adequate inventory and availability of all supplies and medications.

  • Maintain a current list of contact numbers of all appropriate UM LAORA/ Transplant personnel and updates list as needed. This list will be utilized to contact appropriate personnel based on Perfusionist's logistical knowledge of organ donation/recovery process in a timely manner.

  • Assists with kidney dissections if appropriate.

  • Prepares routine procedures to place a liver on the preservation pump. Monitors kidneys in the preservation pump.

  • Has the ability of performing procedures to recover of human tissue for research.

  • Keeps UM LAORA Associate Director of Clinical Operations apprised of all local and import organ activity.
