SHIFT:  Primarily evening and weekend shifts.  Department supervisors will negotiate a mutually agreeable work schedule with the students based on their class schedule and the department’s staffing needs.

JOB SUMMARY: 

 

Each student technologist, while employed in the radiology department, will be mentored by a registered radiological technologist. Student technologists are expected to perform radiographic exams including fluoroscopy, general radiography, IVP's, ER patients, and some trauma work as outlined in the job description and orientation. Provide an opportunity for radiology students to increase their clinical skills.  To provide students with a role model for the practice of radiology.  To provide clinical experience helpful in making the transition from student technologist to professional radiologic technologist.

BASIC FUNCTION AND RESPONSIBILITY:

To assist staff in completion of their assigned duties through the completion of various tasks as assigned.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Perform radiographic procedures as listed in adult and pediatric policy and procedure manual for department. These exams include fluoroscopy, general radiography, IVP’s, emergency room patients, and some trauma work. Perform all aspects of patient contact including greeting patient, exam information, proper positioning and marking of radiographs, and proper film development. Keep rooms stocked and cleaned at all times; equipment cleaned and properly maintained. Follow proper radiation safety guidelines as determined by the department. Learn and utilize computer systems including Cerner/Powerchart, PACS, and Radnet.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

Be able to work with indirect supervision at all times. Communicate well with patients, co-workers, physicians, and supervisors. Show initiative and be flexible.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:

Direct supervision received from designated supervisor.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED:

None

 

Qualifications

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Completion of one (1) year of an AMA approved radiology technology program. Applicants must be within one year of graduation from a radiology technology program as of May 2024.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Additional license/certification requirements as determined by the hiring department.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met with or without reasonable accommodation. The performance of these physical demands is an essential function of the job. This position is very active and requires ambulating, reaching, and moving objects weighing up to and over 20 lbs. This role also routinely comes into contact with patients who may have contagious illnesses. This position is in a health care facility open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Rotating shifts as well as holiday and work during inclement weather will be required.
