Basic Biomedical Sciences is looking for an experienced Researcher/Lab Manager to work under the general supervision of the principal investigator, Dr. Grant R. Campbell, https://www.usd.edu/research-and-faculty/faculty-and-staff/grant-r-campbell
The incumbent will manage several aspects of the research laboratory and conduct independent research projects studying NeuroAIDS. The candidate is expected to ensure smooth and safe functioning of the laboratory, as well as make significant innovative contributions pertaining to the design and overall direction of research projects and propose possible changes or new directions when appropriate.
DUTIES
· Develop and maintain inventory of reagents, biological samples, and analytical datasets.
· Develop and maintain standard operating procedures and method protocols.
· Provide work direction and teach laboratory procedures to undergraduate students and graduate students and assist with the research of postdoctoral researchers.
· Promote quality focused Kaizen ideology and the implementation of the 5S methodology.
· Ensure continued laboratory permitting through maintenance of BBP and HazMat plans.
· Perform general laboratory maintenance and assist with equipment maintenance.
· Participate in the preparation of manuscripts and scientific articles suitable for publication in scientific journals, including editing technical sections of manuscripts.
· Perform data analysis, including statistical analysis, using computerized methods.
· Perform other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
· MS in chemistry, biology, or similar field.
· Demonstrated ability to perform HLA typing.
· Knowledge of PCIS and TAMTRON.
· Proven experience with virological cultures.
· Proven experience in NCMR and CAPA quality system metrics.
· Demonstrated experience with the use and maintenance of general and special laboratory equipment such as centrifuges, microscopes, cell culture incubator, sterile bio safety hoods, autoclaves, fume hoods, pH meter, spectrophotometers, balances, pipetters, and thermal cycler.
· Demonstrated experience in preparing samples for frozen section immunohistochemistry.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Patience, knowledge, and experience to teach principal laboratory operations, theories, molecular biology techniques, tissue culture operations and techniques, and laboratory safety procedures and policies to students and new lab members. Must be willing and able to work with bio- hazardous materials including HIV and West Nile virus. Interested parties may apply at https://yourfuture.sdbor.edu.
