Overview:  

We are currently seeking engineers to join our Quantum Information Science Section in the Computational Sciences and Engineering Division.  More information on the QIS section may be found at (https://www.ornl.gov/section/quantum-information-science ).

Major Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Technical development and engineering related to quantum technology for cybersecurity of power and energy systems.
  • Technical development related to engineering quantum systems for deployment in optical networks coexisting with classical signals.
  • Technical development and engineering related to the design of large quantum systems.
  • Contribute to Quantum networking research areas in the group.

   

Basic Qualifications:

  • BS degree and 2+ years of relevant experience or an MS degree and 1+ year of relevant experience.
  • Degree area should be in physics, optics, optical engineering, systems engineering, electrical engineering, computer science, or a directly related field
  • Previous experience in experimental design, prototyping and testing electronically controlled (for example FPGA controlled) systems

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Labview and FPGA programming as well as other programable logic controllers for data acquisition and control
  • Experience with Lasers and their stabilization
  • Experience with cryogenics and/or vacuum systems
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Project management experience
  • Motivated self-starter with the ability to work independently and to participate creatively in collaborative teams across the laboratory.
  • Ability to function well in a fast-paced research environment, set priorities to accomplish multiple tasks within deadlines, and adapt to ever changing needs.
