Public Safety Telecommunication Center Supervisor

Job Summary

Serve as the Public Safety Telecommunication Center Supervisor for Police, Fire, EMS and other University departments for the Purdue West Lafayette and Purdue Northwest campuses.  Responsible for supervising staff and operations of dispatch at the Purdue Police Department; ensures compliance with policies, procedures, and standards to enable the safety of all public safety responders and the public; understanding of dispatch duties.  The Emergency Services Dispatch Supervisor will report directly to the Captain of Patrol.

What We Are Looking For

 

Education and Experience:

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree business administration, supervision, public safety, or related field
  • One year of public safety supervision experience
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience will also be considered   

 

Skills:

Required:   

  • Must have demonstrated consistent use of good judgment
  • Ability to handle highly confidential information, always use discretion and work effectively under stressful situations
  • Must have excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Must act in a professional manner with the ability to exercise tact and diplomacy as needed to provide support to a diverse work group and customer base
  • Excellent listening and comprehension skills
  • Must be able to be assertive when needed
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment with the ability to multi-task several job responsibilities at one time
  • Must be able to work independently as well as in a team environment
  • Must be able to obtain and hold certifications in Indiana Data and Communications System (IDACS), the National Crime Information Center (NCIC), Criminal Justice Information Security Regulations (CJIS) and Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD)
  • The ability to work a flexible schedule
  • Cognitive map reading ability, and ability to perform multiple tasks in a proficient manner
  • Must have a good working knowledge and a high level of proficiency with Windows based operations such as MS Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Must be able to type with a high level of accuracy.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 20 pounds occasionally

 

Preferred:

  • Prior knowledge of Police Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) and Records Management System (RMS) systems
