Job Summary 

The Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner is a full-time position.  The employee will provide outpatient psychiatric, and substance use disorder assessments, diagnosis, and treatment under the supervision of and in collaboration with the medical director of the Partnership Comprehensive Care Practice (PCCP).

Essential Functions 

  • Provide outpatient psychiatric and substance use disorder assessment, formulate diagnoses and treatment plans, and provide direct treatment services to patients in the Caring Together Program under the supervision of and collaboration with the program psychiatrist/medical director.
  • Perform comprehensive psychiatric histories including substance use histories and perform physical examinations as needed, evaluate risk factors and order therapeutic and diagnostic tests as needed including referral for medical and specialty care. Regularly assess and evaluate the effectiveness of the treatment plan and make appropriate modifications in conjunction with the patient.
  • Prescribe evidence-based medications following the program’s policy, appropriate formulary and relevant regulations of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania including medication assisted treatment (MAT).  Provides patient education regarding medications, risks, benefits, and reasonable outcome expectations.
  • Provide evidence-base psychotherapeutic interventions as indicated.
  • Order laboratory tests, interpret and explain the test results to patients.
  • Refer patients for inpatient care when indicated.
  • Schedule timely follow up visits with patients and provide longitudinal care as indicated by their clinical condition.
  • Work collaboratively with Partnership team, including the Program Director, providers, counselors, outreach, pharmacist, medical case managers, peer specialists, child development specialist and trainees.
  • Participate actively in interdisciplinary team meetings.
  • Consult with the medical director on challenging cases and those cases that are beyond the scope of qualifications.
  • Complete all required clinical documentation in a timely manner, ensuring all patient data is up to date in the medical record and billing is complete and submitted.
  • Formulate, execute, and review healthcare education delivered to patients and when appropriate, families for diseases prevention and treatment.
  • Ensure smooth communication with all internal and external health professionals, including referral sources for effective delivery of clinic services to patients in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
  • May provide primary medical care services as indicated and appropriate.

Required Qualifications 

  • Masters Degree in Psychiatric/Mental Health or Equivalent   
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in a related field.
  • Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Nurse Practitioner License. Licensure as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
  • Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Nurse Specialty Certification as a Nurse Practitioner
  • National certification in Advanced Practice Nursing Specialty
  • Registration with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and DEA for prescription writing privileges with Suboxone waiver to provide Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT)
  • Maintain and update professional knowledge and proficiency through continuing education, staff meetings, workshops and serving on special committees.

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Excellent clinical judgment and the ability to be self-directed and demonstrate initiative in an expanded role.
  • Ability to demonstrate critical thinking, problem-solving and conflict resolution skills.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills with staff, patients, and community providers.
  • Must have proficiency with standard computer skills, including Microsoft Word and Zoom for virtual meetings.
  • Familiarity with electronic medical records systems.
  • Knowledge of and experience supporting diverse patient backgrounds, including race, gender, and LGBTQ+ identities, and deep interest in advocating for marginalized communities.

Additional Information 

This position is classified as Exempt, grade N. Compensation for this grade ranges from $90,430 to $135,640 per year. Please note that the offered rate for this position typically aligns with the minimum to midrange of this grade, but it can vary based on the successful candidate’s qualifications and experience, department budget, and an internal equity review.
