Proteomics Senior Research Associate

Job Summary

The Purdue Proteomics Facility located in Bindley Bioscience Center at Discovery Park District has an opening for a Proteomics Senior Research Scientist.  We seek a proactive and enthusiastic scientist who can work collaboratively with research teams across scientific disciplines in a fast-paced research environment.  The successful candidate will primarily support proteomics research on campus and report to the facility's director.  The scientist will assist faculty, students, and postdoctoral researchers in designing and implementing proteomics experiments, including the operation and maintenance of mass spectrometers, proteomics data collection, and data analysis.  Other key responsibilities include collaborating with faculty to develop new protocols tailored to each project and training novice users in proteomics techniques, including data collection and analysis.  The senior scientist will train and mentor students and contribute to scientific manuscripts and grant proposals.


What We're Looking For:
  • PhD degree in analytical chemistry, biochemistry, biology, proteomics, or a related discipline
  • Previous direct experience with proteomics or high-end mass spectrometry in a biological context
  • Consideration will be given to an equivalent combination of required education and related experience
  • Demonstrated track record or publication in peer-reviewed journals
  • Strong knowledge of general biology, biochemistry, and analytical chemistry techniques
  • Proven ability and direct hands-on experiences in LC-MS/MS application, method development and validation
  • Familiar with different chromatography separation principles and techniques
  • Experience with a variety of proteomic data analysis packages (MaxQuant, Mascot, Proteome discover, Skyline)
  • Ability to work independently, strong organizational skills, and ability to work in a dynamic and team enviroment
  • Multitasking and ability to plan and prioritize multiple projects and workload
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds

What Is Helpful:
  • Experience with Orbitrap mass spectrometers
  • Experience with advanced proteomics sample preparation techniques for protein isolation from cells, tissues and biofluids, sub-cellular fractionation, immuno- or chemical affinity purification
