Understanding of philanthropy (mission, practice, trends) and fundraising practices (the development cycle, prospect management policies and practices).

Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication and project management skills required.

Ability to develop strong working relationships with colleagues.

Assist Associate Vice President for Advancement in building and maintaining fundraising portfolios, including implementing methods to evaluate portfolio productivity, and monitoring fundraising activity.

Conduct prospect research to identify and provide accurate and comprehensive information about prospective donors to gift officers and senior leadership who will use the information to develop strategies to secure private gifts for Ferris State University.

Participate as a key member of cross-divisional work teams within University Advancement and Marketing colleagues to regularly assess data needs and develop clearly articulated processes for collecting, recording, maintaining, requesting and sharing data.

Analyze financial information, documents, news articles and other sources to identify and quality potential donor prospects.

Utilize a variety of electronic and print sources to complete detailed and up-to-date research reports on prospects.

Regularly work to identify potential new donors for the prospect pool, resulting in an increase in the number of engagements and gifts to the University.

Plan, implement and lead prospect management meetings with fundraising staff.
Meet with Advancement staff and others as appropriate about requests for prospect information and to identify prospect lists for specific fundraising projects.

Strive for continuous improvement in all facets of research and prospect management.
Serve as a front-line expert and resource on the use and evaluation of online data tools and in-house database prospect tracking protocol.

Monitor news sources for funding sources and fundraising trends to keep the Advancement staff abreast of these issues.

Responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of designated information.

Performs other duties and requested.

Reports to the Associate Vice President for Advancement.

Any other duties assigned within the position classification area.
