Position Focus:

As a unit within Yale’s Office of Corporate and Foundation Relations, the Strategic Initiatives and Proposal Development team works to attract and maintain significant philanthropic investments in support of Yale’s research enterprise.  The unit’s efforts are focused on coordinating a comprehensive and targeted approach to funding opportunities available via requests for proposals (RFP) issued by foundation and corporate prospects.  This unit executes comprehensive proposal development strategies through all stages of proposal conceptual development and refinement.  An important focus is working with university leadership to identify and lead proposal development efforts for large-scale, complex, and multidisciplinary proposals commensurate with projects of strategic importance to the Office of Corporate and Foundation Relations and the University.

Under the supervision of the unit’s director, the Proposal Development Manager nurtures critical relationships internally with faculty and leadership, and externally with private foundations and corporations through the development of grant applications that are competitive for funding.  Key partners include colleagues serving roles in academic leadership, research administration, corporate and foundation relations, as well as colleagues across schools and departments.  Success in the role requires the ability to foster an environment that promotes collaboration and teamwork, and effective project management skills with the ability to organize, meet deadlines, and prioritize multiple tasks with competing needs. The Proposal Development Manager will develop and execute a range of strategic activities with the goal to increase Yale’s competitiveness for extramural funding from foundations and industry.

Key responsibilities include: Identify and disseminate information on funding opportunities/RFPs from foundations and corporations to leadership, faculty, and administrators. Provide guidance and expertise to facilitate competitive grant applications from individual faculty members, and teams of researchers. Provide proposal conceptual development and editing/writing support for individual investigator awards, as well as large, complex team science awards. Coordinate internal resources, including those from administrative offices within Yale, to support and enhance the competitiveness of grant applications; assist faculty in navigating relevant administrative offices and requirements within Yale. Advise institutional leadership on issues related to specific funding opportunities.
Serve as institutional representative to the university community, including academic leadership, faculty, and staff in a variety of roles within Yale’s research enterprise.
