Description of Work
The Project Specialist for Project RAÍCES (Re-Envisioning Action and Innovation through Community Collaborations for Equity across Systems) (100% FTE) will be responsible for logistical management of (a) activities associated with the Grow-Your-Own (GYO) undergraduate *BESITOS scholarship program (which include student recruitment, retention, and ongoing support) and (b) activities associated with the Youth Participatory Action Research (YPAR) programs (which include further design, implementation, and dissemination) across all five sites in NE and one in KS.

More specifically the Project Specialist will:
  • Work with leadership team to create promotional materials and program information;
  • Be responsible for the scheduling, organization, ongoing communication, and reporting related to both the GYO and the YPAR program components;
  • Coordinate (with leadership team) project-related travel for project events and presentations;
  • Monitor and support participant progress (in YPAR and GYO programs) toward completion of benchmarks (e.g., monitoring and documenting participant progress and creating and maintaining databases);
  • Support the leadership team in planning and organizing of all major events (e.g. the monthly GYO seminars, the annual YPAR Summits @ UNL, and the Grant Partnership Convening @ UNL in Year 2);
  • Work with UNL media services to maintain website content, social media outlets, and respond to inquiries about the programs and their requirements;
  • Will inform the work of and engage with co-PIs in the data collection and initiation of research that will ultimately inform open-access resources associated with both the YPAR and the GYO components.

The position will be located in Lincoln on the University of Nebraska-Lincoln campus, yet the candidate could live in or around the Lincoln area or the partnering communities and commute weekly. This position will require some evening and weekend hours, and occasional in-state travel, as needed to support attainment of project goals and objectives.

Minimum Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in education, student affairs, business, or social sciences; equivalent education/experience considered. Two (2) years of experience working within an educational context (informal/formal/community-based) that required time management, data management, computer & technological skills, Google and Microsoft software skills, strong communication, logistical planning, knowledge of educational systems and processes. Experience working in education/higher education, community organization, non-profit. or as a P-12 teacher with demonstrated experience working with underrepresented populations. Demonstrated experience working with culturally and/or linguistically diverse student populations required. Must have strong intercultural communication, presentation, organization, and computer skills. Must have a valid driver’s license and meet University driver eligibility requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree in education, student affairs, or academic advising plus three years of demonstrated knowledge of grant funded projects desirable. Experience as a certified teacher. Knowledge of related community organizations helpful. Prefer experience working with high school and/or college students. Experience with college recruitment and/or academic advising. Experience with assessments desirable. Strong intercultural and bilingual/multilingual skills desirable. Preference will be given to candidates that are bilingual (Spanish/English) or with multilingual abilities.

Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) required. Subject to DOT approved pre-employment & random testing for alcohol and controlled substances.

Posted Salary $49,000/year minimum
