Department Purpose

The Jan Shrem and Maria Manetti Shrem Museum of Art is dedicated to education and serves a primary audience of faculty and students as the lens through which it engages a broader audience. The museum’s program is steeped in the richness of resources at UC Davis (a top 5 public university in the US), which is also the repository of an important art historical legacy, and its physical location in the Central Valley.
The incumbent must be creative and enjoy working within a small, entrepreneurial team that is mission-driven, results-driven, and community oriented. Must have the ability to exercise good judgment in a variety of situations, exhibiting perseverance and grace under pressure. Requires strong written and verbal communication, project management and organizational skills, and the ability to maintain a realistic balance among multiple priorities.



Job Summary

Reporting to the Director of Museum Education and University Engagement, and working closely with the museum’s senior leadership team, the Academic Liaison will contribute to making the Manetti Shrem Museum a dynamic site for art and interdisciplinary programming serving faculty and students. The incumbent will join an energetic team in connecting with faculty and other partners to develop programming that utilizes the richness of resources at UC Davis, a top-ten public research university, which is also the repository of an important art historical legacy
The Academic Liaison will lead development of collaborative projects including classes, exhibits, and collections-based programs. The incumbent must be committed to innovative pedagogical approaches that utilize the museum’s resources.
The museum is an engaged partner in the intellectual work of the campus, involving students, faculty and staff as initiators, partners, and participants in the research and development of all aspects of its programming. The Academic Liaison will work with museum staff and faculty to increase the museum’s integration into the fabric of the university and engage campus intellectual resources.

  • Ability to frequently sit and work at a computer for extended periods of time. 

WORK ENVIRONMENT

QUALIFICATIONS

 

Required:

 

Minimum Education/Experience

  • MA or equivalent experience in related field of arts or humanities.

 

  • Experience working directly with faculty members to connect students with museum
    resources

 

  • A minimum of 3-5 years experience in the museum field and/or higher education field.

 

  • Experience with public presentation and convening diverse public groups.

 

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA)

  • Track record of developing and implementing collaborative programs in an art museum or other arts-based organization.

 

  • Written communication skills to prepare a variety of materials including correspondence, reports, policies/procedures, informational documents, position descriptions, training manuals, and performance evaluations.

 

 

Preferred:

Preferred Education/Experience

  • PhD in related field

 

  • Experience teaching in a university environment

 

  • Experience working in a university art museum
