Primary Purpose of Position
The primary responsibility of the Project Manager (PM) is to manage the programming, design, and construction administration of University capital projects. Projects will range in value from $500,000 up to, and exceeding $36,000,000. The incumbent will manage projects beginning in the Advanced Planning Phase carrying the project through the construction phase to close-out procedures.
Minimum Education/Experience
Required Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in the engineering discipline related to the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience Some positions may require licensure by the North Carolina Board of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
University Preferred Qualifications:

Essential Job Duties
  • Oversee design and construction of a variety of University projects (capital and informal) to include planning, design (all phases), bidding and contracting, budgets, schedules, from advanced planning thru project closeout.
  • Responsible for development and postings of all RFP’s and RFQ’s for design, CM@R, CMT/SI, Commissioning etc. as required for projects in accordance with the State Construction Office (SCO) and the University of North Carolina College System Office (UNCSO) regulations.
  • Responsible for all communication and coordination with University project customers, design teams, contractors throughout the entire project process.
  • Provide analysis, design, design review and approvals in accordance with required SCO and UNCSO requirements.
  • Provide all project management oversight.
  • Manage implementation of projects and plans according to codes and regulations.
  • Provide consultation and technical assistance as required for the projects.
Other Work Responsibilities
  • Assist with project cost estimating as needed with planning.
  • Organize and oversee designer and CM@R selections, as required.
  • Review all phases of project documents prior to State Construction Office submission to ensure in compliance with minimal standards as set forth in SCO manual.
  • Perform other duties as assigned and/or delegated to support all operations.
Departmental Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education
  • Bachelor’s degree in architecture, engineering, interior design, or other related disciplines that assist in the execution of job responsibilities; or equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Knowledge and skill of effective project management.
  • Four years’ experience in the Engineering field or other applicable areas in which project management is a focus area.
  • Professional licensure, certification, or equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Knowledge of reviewing project design and construction documents to ensure project goals, standards and procedures are incorporated.
  • Knowledge in scheduling and participating in project design and construction meetings with customers, architects, engineers and other consultants.
  • Ability to prepare reports that include project budget and schedule status.
Necessary Licenses or Certifications
  • Some positions may require licensure by the North Carolina Board of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors.
  • Valid Drivers’ License, or ability to receive one prior to start date.
