The Community Research Exploring Adolescent Resilience (CREAR) Lab is seeking a Project Coordinator to join the team.

The Project Coordinator will help support the research program of Dr. Andrea Medrano whose work focuses broadly on the academic and psychological outcomes adolescents and emerging adults, with a particular focus on Latino/a/x populations in the U.S. and Mexico. 

The Project Coordinator’s key responsibilities will include providing technical and administrative support for multiple research studies. Specifically, the candidate will assist with the preparation, submission, modification, and renewal of Institutional Review Board (IRB) protocols, participant recruitment efforts, screening and obtaining consent/assent from study participants, conducting qualitative interviews with research participants, and other assigned duties that support the labs’ research and training endeavors.

The Coordinator will also assist with efforts to establish and maintain partnerships with school administrators.

Candidates should possess the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree (or possess skills and work experience commensurate with a BA/BS) in psychology, human development, education, sociology, social work, or other social science;
  • Research experience in the fields of psychology, child and adolescent development;
  • Interest in and commitment to conducting policy-relevant research centered on promoting the health and well-being of ethnically, racially, and socioeconomically diverse children and families;
  • Advanced computer and technology skills, including proficiency with basic office productivity tools (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint; Google Drive, Docs, Sheets, and Slides);
  • Superior problem-solving skills and a willingness to take initiative; ability to work independently as well as to seek support when necessary, prioritize competing projects and duties, and work collaboratively in a team environment; excellent oral and written communication skills; strong organizational and interpersonal skills and meticulous attention to detail.
  • Experience using statistical software (e.g., SPSS, Stata, R) and/or qualitative data analysis software (e.g., NVivo) is desirable, but not required. 

Because upcoming data collection will take place in Mexico with Spanish-speaking populations, it is required that the project coordinator speak, write, and read Spanish.

The Project Coordinator’s key responsibilities will include multiple moderately to highly complex tasks. Specifically, the team member will:

  • Coordinate and schedule primary data collection activities, construct and administer in-person and online surveys, coordinate pilot testing activities, conduct in-depth, qualitative interviews and lead focus groups, and maintain systems for secure data management;
  • Provide administrative support for grant proposals and assist with post-award grants management, purchasing equipment and supplies, and coordinating with departmental, center, and university administrators as necessary to perform these duties.
  • The project coordinator will assist with the preparation, submission, modification, and renewal of Institutional Review Board (IRB) protocols. The Project Coordinator will lead participant recruitment efforts, screen and obtain consent/assent from study participants, manage participant payment activities for research projects, and devise systems for tracking these activities. The Project Coordinator will help onboard and train undergraduate and post baccalaureate research assistants.



    Job Summary

    Assists with and adheres to Institutional Review Board (IRB) renewal, modification, and approved protocols. Recruits research subjects and conducts interviews and research assessments.


    Essential Functions 

    Coordinate and schedule primary data collection, construct and administer in-person and paper surveys, coordinate pilot testing, conduct in-depth, qualitative interviews, and maintain systems for secure data management. Review and apply regulations governing human subjects research and prepare protocols, amendments, and modifications for research involving human subjects, including vulnerable populations such as children.
    Communicate with a diverse array of prospective participants, organizational staff and leaders, and community stakeholders.
    Use appropriate databases and other tools to securely manage sensitive data.


    Physical Effort 

    This position is primarily sedentary and involves significant periods of sitting (or standing based on the incumbent’s preferences) while using a computer, audiovisual, telephone, and other office equipment. The role involves some movement between lab spaces, offices, and conference rooms within the (wheelchair-accessible) workplace as well as some on-campus and off-campus (i.e., within the community at large) travel for recruitment, data collection, meetings, and other purposes. The incumbent may have to transport and carry recruitment and study materials and documents to different on-campus and off-campus locations, but no heavy lifting is required.
