Position Overview
The Project Coordinator, MKE Roots provides classroom- and teacher-facing support for the implementation of place-based, inquiry-centered pedagogies in Milwaukee-area K12 schools as part of federally funded programming to improve history and civics education in Milwaukee classrooms. MKE Roots is a place-based, inquiry-centered, history and civics curriculum based on the history of Milwaukee’s communities of color, indigenous nations, and other historically marginalized communities.
Duties and Responsibilities
1. Lead the building of place-based curriculum resources for MKE Root’s online ecosystem.
2. Facilitate the Explore MKE pilot programming at partner K12 schools within Milwaukee County and coach additional facilitators.
3. Provide classroom-level support for MKE Roots Educators Network. Collaborate with graduate researchers and MKE Roots faculty to develop place-based, inquiry-centered materials for partner schools. Support teachers in their implementation of place-based methodology.
4. Assist the Research and Evaluation team in evaluating Explore MKE pilot programming and classroom based MKE Roots implementation.
5. Attend and co-lead Community of Practice meetings and professional development workshops for the MKE Roots Educators Network.
6. Implement logistical operations for programming and curricula between Marquette and school districts in Milwaukee County.
7. Maintain communication and formalize relationships with our Community Partners.
8. Performs all other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Bachelor’s degree in related field.
Minimum of 4 years of related experience.
Will need to be an educational professional with experience with serving students from historically marginalized communities, especially within Milwaukee’s schools, and experience supporting educators in their work to better serve students of color, indigenous students, and other marginalized student groups.
Professional experience in K12 classrooms.
Group facilitation experience.
Skill in facilitating conversations around race, oppression, and decolonization within educational settings.
Directly serving K12 youth, either in the classroom or in educational enrichment programming
Experience developing curriculum, teaching materials, and/or enrichment opportunities for K12 students
Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Master’s degree preferred.
Fluency in Spanish
Project management experience
Supervisory experience with students / student workers
Knowledge of educational research, especially related to equity and the history of marginalized groups in education.
Experience offering client-facing support, preferably in an educational setting
