Project Archivist

Job Profile Title

Temporary Employee - Non-Exempt

Job Description Summary

Reporting to the Head of Archives and Manuscripts Processing in the Special Collections Processing Center, the project archivist will, using existing metadata as a guide, the archivist will assign box and item numbers to the nearly ten thousand item collection, standardizing metadata, and enhancing album information when necessary and or possible. (https://www.library.upenn.edu/collections/notable/freedman/explore); but instead will serve as a concise tool for locating and providing physical access to the collection.

Responsibilities

  • Review physical containers and verify that material is accurately described by existing metadata
  • If necessary, correct, standardize, and/or enhance existing metadata upon review of physical material
  • Assign a box and item number to each album or folder
  • Create EAD finding aid using ArchivesSpace that will be available to researchers via Philadelphia Area Archives (https://findingaids.library.upenn.edu/)  10%
  • Write at least one blog post highlighting the collection or an aspect of the collection.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned


Qualifications
Required

• Experience with Excel spreadsheets

• Experience with archival best practices

• Experience with Describing Archives: A Content Standard (DACS)

• Knowledge of Hebrew and/or Yiddish (ideally both)

• A commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion


Preferred
• Experience working with music collections and a diverse set of music formats
• Evidence of high level of initiative, self-motivation, and attention to detail
