Position Summary
This position supports faculty and students to increase interest in innovation and entrepreneurship, particularly among those who can support startups and help them grow (vs having a startup idea themselves). The Specialist aggregates entrepreneurship curriculum, research, and programs across campus with a goal of building momentum on successes and advancing the innovation environment. Provides operational support to new and special initiatives in the Skandalaris Center.


Job Description

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Outreach: Advises and provides resources to prospective and current students, faculty, and staff regarding entrepreneurship curriculum and Skandalaris co-curricular programs; creates and facilitates presentations (classes, student group and staff meetings); communicates information about curriculum and Skandalaris programs to academic advisors, student services teams, and career centers; acts as liaison to Admissions departments across campus; advises entrepreneurial student groups; partner with campus groups to plan and host hackathons and co-sponsor other events, sits on various committees to provide access/info to innovation/entrepreneurship.
  • Provides day-to-day operational responsibility for all Center programs and initiatives in support of Centerâ™s mission. Manages program leaders (students) to ensure strong day-to-day activity across the Centerâ™s portfolio of innovative and creative programs, including internship/experiential. Ensuring strong diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts across the Center.   
  • Actively tracks Center metrics and data with relation to rankings surveys and similar required reporting. Maintains database of WashU âœDNA❠ventures to ensure ongoing and accurate reporting of this data. Utilizes CRM to enable reporting and analysis across programs.
  • Orientations and new student recruitment â“ works closely with schools and CFU programs across the university to bring incoming students into the Skandalaris Center community. Trains students and leaders who, along with the Communications Manager, serve as the first point of interaction for new students (grad and undergrads) interested in innovation and entrepreneurship at Washington University.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Graduate degree.
  • Familiarity with the Washington University campus and the St. Louis community.
  • Familiarity with other cross-campus, interdisciplinary centers at Washington University.
  • Demonstrated success in working with diverse populations.
  • Ability to analyze and learn, think creatively, and take initiative to achieve results.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including ability to prepare written reports and make oral presentations.
  • Ability to share a vision of the innovation environment in a collaborative team.
  • Ability to influence others and make an impact.
  • Ability to counsel and advise, be sensitive to student needs and concerns, and handle confidential information.
  • Knowledge of higher education challenges.
  • Knowledge of research methods.


Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree with three years of related experience or equivalent education and experience.

Salary Range
$48,700.00 - $80,500.00 / Annually

The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
