Summary

The Office of Culture, Community and Equity (OCCE) seeks a collaborative, strategic, and organized teammate who desires a role to contribute to the college's diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) goals. The Program Manager's primary responsibility is to coordinate the administrative and operational activities related to the College of Engineering's DEI strategic plan and DEI consultation with departmental staff. You will help enact and maintain measures that promote DEI within the College. 

The Program Manager contributes to our positive and inclusive work community by building trusting partnerships across the college and coordinating impactful initiatives with a commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion in mind. You will report directly to the Program Director of Equity, Strategy & Innovation.

Responsibilities*

Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Implementation (40%)

  • In collaboration with OCCE staff and partners, help coordinate DEI 2.0 strategic planning, implementation, reporting and evaluation efforts.
  • Provide consultation to CoE staff regarding departmental DEI initiatives i.e. developing equity-based practices, fostering inclusive working and learning environments, and leading strategic change. 
  • Co-creating sustainable feedback loops for community input.
  • Bolster cross-departmental collaboration by connecting community partners with shared goals. 

Program Management (50%)

  • Manage collaborative initiatives such as the Culture, Community, & Equity Staff Network, Public Policy Forum and North Campus Deans' MLK Spirit Awards to manage logistics, coordinate sessions, administer budgets and implement high equality events.
  • Lead project teams comprised of diverse partners including students, staff and faculty.
  • Generate plans for enhancing programs based on feedback and learning.
  • Implement events within budget.  Monitor expenses, conduct reconciliations and prepare reports on activity costs.  
  • Work in partnership with the Program Director to improve community resources such as the DEI Mapping System.
  • Facilitate on-demand DEI group dialogues and professional development sessions.
  • Conduct presentations to internal and external constituents.
  • Communicate with partners by responding to inquiries, composing emails, project summaries and reports. 

Relationship Management (10%)

  • Develop relationships across the college and university to support DEI initiatives. 
  • Thoughtfully handle complex, confidential matters.

Required Qualifications*
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, & inclusion.
  • Bachelor's degree and 3+ years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and related experience required. 
  • Demonstrated experience managing a diverse workload and creatively addressing challenges.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Experience maintaining relationships, communication channels, and delivering presentations to diverse audiences at multiple levels inside and outside the organization.
  • Experience managing programs or projects including planning, implementation and evaluation efforts.
  • Must have experience managing within a budget.
  • Demonstrated ability to thoughtfully handle complex, confidential matters.
  • Proficiency with Google Suite and project management platforms such as Asana. 

Desired Qualifications*
  • Experience utilizing equity-based frameworks, theories and pedagogy in an academic setting. 
  • Coaching or consultation skills related to DEI topics.

Work Locations

The Michigan Engineering Office of Culture Community and Equity operates in a hybrid work environment consisting of both in-person and remote work. This position will be classified as a FLEX position within the Michigan Engineering STARR classification matrix which means working at U-M's Ann Arbor North Campus three days per week in an open, shared office environment, with the option to work remotely for the remaining two.
