Job Description

The Water Institute seeks a Program Manager to lead program management, operations, and administrative support for the institute as part of the Global Futures Laboratory at Arizona State University.

The Water Institute at ASU will be an international center of excellence for scholarship and action to solve the emerging water and climate challenges being faced worldwide This institute will play a pivotal, cross-cutting role in shaping water-sensitive solutions across various domains.

Under the administrative direction the institute director, the Program Manager will play a significant role in coordinating and executing all center functions under institute leadership, ensuring the goals and objectives of the institute are accomplished with excellence in accordance with priorities, time constraints, budgets, and strategic plans. The Program Manager will approach this dynamic position with initiative, anticipation, and critical thinking skills to apply to a fast-paced work environment.

$48,960 - $68,000 per year; DOE

Essential Duties

  • Help identify and engage faculty, students, staff, researchers, and outside organizations who are prospective participants in the Water Institute.
  • Help develop and disseminate content for the marketing/communications, corporate relations, events, and proposal management teams.
  • Monitor, manage and maintain an in-depth understanding of program budgets and processes.
  • Assist director with calendar, meeting schedules, making travel reservations and trip processing.
  • Participate in the preparation of financial and administrative reports.
  • Assist in preparation of major operational and special budgets.
  • Assist with reports, funding opportunity announcements, and responses to requests for information.
  • Develop and facilitate events, workshops, meetings, or conferences; coordinate logistics, scheduling and participant communications; develop brochures or other unique projects.
  • Otherwise help ensure the goals of the Water Institute are met in accordance with the budget and timeline.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in a related field AND five years administrative/coordination experience; OR, Master's degree in field appropriate to area of assignment AND three years administrative/coordination experience; OR Any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.


Desired Qualifications

  • Evidence of Master’s degree in related field.
  • Experience specific to higher education a plus. 
  • Experience in principles of program management and general business.
  • Experience with a variety of technology and technological platforms with the ability to continuously learn new tech skills.
  • Event management experience
  • Experience in Workday, ASU finance & accounting procedures and/or the ability to take on new knowledge in these areas.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of any of the following engagement platforms: Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Slack, Microsoft Office Suite, Dropbox, and Google Drive.
  • Experience in interfacing with varied levels of administrators, faculty, staff, and collaborators.
  • Experience working in a deadline-driven environment with a sense of urgency.
  • Experience in navigating moderately complex issues and troubleshoot with guidance and occasionally with limited information and guidance.
  • Experience in work that requires organization and an eye for detail.

  • Ability to clearly communicate and exchange accurate information to perform essential duties.
