HSDM is remarkably productive and empowered to perform exceptional training in all areas of oral medicine. Contributions from our esteemed faculty have made transformational discoveries in research that have led to transformational advances in oral medicine. The Division of Endodontics is housed within the Department of Restorative Dentistry and Biomaterials Sciences (RDBS). The Advanced Graduate Education in Endodontics is a CODA Accredited Program and enjoys national and international recognition as a leading program in the fields of clinical endodontics, regenerative endodontics and pain.
The Department of Restorative Dentistry and Biomaterials Sciences at the Harvard School of Dental Medicine (HSDM) is seeking applications for the position of Program Director of Advanced Graduate Education in Endodontics. The successful candidate should demonstrate a vision of innovation in the field of Endodontics and related translational research.
The position offers a unique interdisciplinary environment for patient care, teaching and research, not only within HSDM but also with Harvard-affiliated hospitals and institutions. The Advanced Graduate Education in Endodontics is a three-year program leading to an MMSc degree in oral biology and a certificate in Endodontics. A DMSc degree, which requires a minimum of four to five years of study, is an option for those individuals whose primary aim to pursue a career in academics or research.
The Program Director oversees all aspects of the AGE in Endodontics program including; the recruitment and admission of highly qualified applicants; the academic, clinical and research progress of the residents; the recruitment and calibration of part-time faculty; the development and maintenance of the program-specific curriculum; and the adherence to CODA accreditation standards.
The ideal candidate will be an enthusiastic individual who is able lead in the field of Endodontics by laying a vision of innovation, mentoring advanced graduate students, and collaborating in translational research. This faculty position has an academic appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor or Associate Professor, commensurate with the experience and qualifications of the individual. A demonstrated background in curricular development and program management is desirable.
Responsibilities
  • The candidate will provide leadership in Endodontic education, clinical sciences and mentorship of future leaders in the field of Endodontics.
  • The continued development of a robust clinical program in Endodontics will be an essential component of this role.
  • The Program Director of AGE in Endodontics oversees all aspects of the program including: the recruitment and admission of highly qualified applicants; the academic, clinical and research progress of the residents; the recruitment and calibration of part-time faculty; the development and maintenance of the program-specific curriculum; and the adherence to CODA accreditation standards.
  • The Director will also serve as a member of the school-wide committee that directs advanced graduate admissions and education.
  • Oversee didactic, preclinical, and clinical teaching of residents enrolled in AGE Endodontics.
  • Intramural or extramural practice opportunities will be available up to 20% of the time.

Basic Qualifications
Candidates must possess a DMD or DDS degree from a CODA-accredited dental school or equivalent, have currently or be eligible for certification from the American Board of Endodontics, and be eligible for dental licensure in Massachusetts. Further qualifications include experience in teaching and clinical instruction in Endodontics, as well as in related areas at the advanced graduate education level. Qualifications should include documented scholarly activity and clinical skills to practice productively in the state-of-the-art Harvard Dental Center.
