Responsible for the operations of a complex center or multiple departments at the university. Oversees staff and budgets, and projects.

  • Administers a complex center or multiple departments.
  • Manages budget and engages in strategic planning to ensure all goals are met.
  • Hires and directs the activities of staff.
  • Resolves personnel issues as they arise.
  • Engages in budget-planning, grant oversight, and policy development.
  • Implements new programs and projects and monitors ongoing activities of department or center.
  • Reviews department policies and processes and implements improvements as needed.
  • Represents department or center to internal and external constituents.
  • Performs other job-related duties as required.

    Qualifications

     

    Bachelors and 7 years experience

    Education: Requires a thorough understanding of both theoretical and practical aspects of an analytical, technical or professional discipline; or the basic knowledge of more than one professional discipline. Knowledge of the discipline is normally obtained through a formal, directly job-related 4 year degree from a college or university or an equivalent in-depth specialized training program that is directly related to the type of work being performed. Experience: Requires a minimum of seven (7) years of directly job-related experience. Certification/Licensing: None.

    The ideal candidate for this position should possess the following:

    • Higher Education experience and familiarity with current and future trends and developments.
    • The candidate must be a multitasker, extremely organized, and able to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment. The candidate must also have strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
    • Experience in budget planning and financial management.
    • Proven experience in financial data collection, analysis, and reporting, including conducting research and analysis to identify trends, anomalies, and areas for improvement in financial data collection and reporting processes.
    • Familiarity with annual reporting or survey requirements established by organizations such as U.S. News & World Report and the American Bar Association.
    • Highest level of proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Microsoft Excel.
    • Experience supporting a complex unit's overall strategic planning and leadership vision, and aligning the creation and implementation of annual budget to overall strategic priorities.
    • Audits (financial audits, endowment audits, key audits, other)
    • Highest level of professionalism and respect for confidentiality.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.

     

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Experience with PeopleSoft Finance and HR preferred.
    • Experience with Hyperion Planning preferred.
    • Relevant University of Houston experience preferred.
    • Master's preferred.
